It amazes me how much dogs pick up on. Millie jumps up on every visitor that comes to my house and is even worse with the owner of her mum, but when she was over a couple of months ago after having a cesarean section Millie was soo calm and gentle with her. She's also pretty good at knowing whether I'm taking them out a walk or going out myself when I put my coat on. At the moment Bella takes all her cues from Millie, anything happens she looks at Millie to see how she is going to react Laughing

I also believe that their sense of smell plays an important role in how they interact with us. Different emotional responses result in different chemical reactions in our bodies and dogs will act accordinally.

I never thought about eye contact though except as a physical challange during an initial meeting so this was interseting reading.

I think that we give off signals of our intent long before we realise and the dogs get this message. When I go out Tyson just knows when he is coming with and when he is staying. His behaviour is radically different for each scenario.
