helpw with zena iam lost lol
First topic message reminder :
i mentioned weeks ago i could smell a metallic from zena or blade and it was zena but that was ages ago but today i let her out she came running in and caught my chair and saw blood on it i thought she cut her self but was coming from her private bits. i turned her over and was a bit of blood. iam lost how can she start bleeding now when i smelt it weeks ago. i still not had blade done because i tryed to get him at pdsa before xmas and they said was busy till after new year so that was great news must say. what the hell can i do i live in a flat on my own with 1 dog coming in season and the dog still has his bits.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Ohhhh the trouble a season causes with entire dogs lol .. Luckily vin was castrated at 6-7months, skye was meant 2b b4 her first season but she started sooner than we thought sometimes it cant be helped.
Skye is always crated at night anyway but even if we was just out the room for 2mins her or vin would go in the crate .. It was no where ner as bad with my 2 obv bcuz of the castration of vin .. The time flew by with skyes first season so just hang in there!! .
My moms friend on the other hand has an entire male staff and a female whos just come into season n he literally tore the house apart to get too her she had to put him at her dads house untill the female is finished.
Crating is the BEST way if u cant have anyone look after blade like you have said you are doing .. Do it like a rotation zena in the cage then blade in the cge .. It will be hard work for the few wks but worth it when it prevents unwanted mating etc.
Good luck! Its tough but can deffo be done

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Sorry Scott. I am glad to hear you are carrying out the suggestions, but like Caryll, I also thought you weren't following them through because of your comment saying it was unfair on Zena. I know too well how tough things can get and throw dogs into the mix too and it is really hard sometimes. We all know how hard a time you have had but it did seem like you were throwing obstacles in front of suggestions given to you. Sounds like you are doing the best you can though, so apologies once again for my comment. Like the others have said try and alternate them in the cage so it is fairer, hopefully it will all be over with soon for you!

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
After thinking about it for a while, I'm not sure that alternating would be a good idea in the crate. If Zena goes in there she'll leave her in-season scent all over it, and then poor Blade will be surrounded by it when he goes in - it'll send him crazy.
I'd put Zena in there, and when she comes out, put Blade in a different room & make sure the door's shut tight.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Just to add Scott Zena will need to clean herself so she will need a break from the nappies and be aware she comes through her season okay no bad smells or nasty stuff coming from her.
Blade will more than likely refuse to eat he may drop weight and continuely whine all this is unfortunatly normal for a dog
Good luck and we are here if you need us

Pants sound the best option tbh ! or even a kids boxer shorts with her tail sticking out thru the front bit [if u know what i mean]
In the meantime - some vets 'may' if you explain the dire situation let you pay for a procedure in installments.... or even the rspca may be able to help ? rather than then unwanted pups.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
I agree with Kelly, keep her on the lead til you know her season is well and truly over or you might find yourself having to wrestle another dog off her that catches her scent and comes out of nowhere.
That pic of her is ADORABLE! I hope her claw heals soon. Glad you're managing to get Blade sorted this month as well and it's not costing you loads. I know it's rough at the mo, but you'll get there

What a gorgeous photo!
I agree with the others, don't let her off lead at all till her season's well & truly over! It just isn't worth the aggravation, believe me - been there, done that!

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
I think its an extra 10-12 day after season is when she ia safest i THINK dont quote me on that lol, sure someone will be more sure and post lol .. You could try a extendo lead etc so she cn have a bit of a run when theres no dogs? I did that with skye, took her up the fields early on a 50ft lead to run her lil legs of lol i didnt let her go the full 50 tho encase a dog did come on the field.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
I definately agree to keep her on a lead. When Tink was in season we had dogs come from far and wide following us home. We once had a really old labrador catch her scent and follow us home down the banks, he didn't have struggle with the terrian but he wouldn't give up
I think it may also be easier if you are not doing so already to walk them seperately. That way you have your full attention on Zena in case other dogs approach and there is no chance of Blade mounting her while your out walking. Sorry your propably doing that already, but if not something to think about!
Gorgeous picture by the way, she is lovely! Hope her claws heal nicely for you!

It varies a great deal but normally starts around a week or so after the first signs appear & carries on anything from 3 days onwards.....
Estrus is the stage when the female is receptive to the male. This stage will last an average of 9 days based on behavioral signs, but can range from 4 to 24 days. The fertile period occurs during this time. The vulva is enlarged, but softens a little. There is a decrease in the blood in the vulvar discharge. Estrogen levels are dropping and progesterone levels are starting to increase. (East Central Veterinary Hospital.)

What a beatiful photo, she is so so cute, and looks snuggly. Hope you the best with everything. I totally understand the whole situation of not being able to afford the important things that you need all the time. I know here we have something called Carecredit. WWW.carecredit.com, and some of the vets accept it.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Scot, I'm sorry, but you have to put up with it! It won't last too much longer.
Although it's driving you and Blade insane, it's better than an unwanted litter of pups from a bitch that is little more than a pup herself.
Keep at it, it'll soon be over!
