really you should put money away every week if you dont pet insurance for this type of things you cant realy on rely on free services.
Cut back on beers, drugs or whatever you do so you can save

Scott I know you've had it pretty tough recently, but you will have to keep them separated. I remember you mentioned your parents previously, could they take Blade for the time Zena is in season?

Ok, but this does call for extreme solutions, so is it worth a try....

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Could you perhaps buy a second hand cage and try the rotating advice? You can pick up second hand cages really cheap. You have to sort something out because they Will mate if given half a chance.
Guest- Guest
Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Buy a cage , there are usually some on gumtree. Maybe contact the PDSA and explain whats happening and they might help, there used to be hormone injections that would delay the season and give you time to get it sorted?. And no sniggering but you can buy dog pants online that might stop any sneaky quickies while you're backs turned ?. You get them for about a tenner i think or maybe try some stretchy trunks/undies?.I know what it's like to be totally skint and you can't always plan ahead.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
it may been abit harsh but when you take on dog(s) you have to put money away if you cant afford vet bills so if one day you need to take your dog(s) to the vets you have the money you have the money there for it only takes £2/£5 a week.
Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
I ant been funny but i had a g.f when we got both dogs now she gone iam left a the debts one wage bills to pay my dogs are always watered and fed and go to the vets for there check up ands small things but sorry i dont have £200 spare for zena. Iam left with hardly any money at end if month so thats my fault. I asked for some help and look what i got. I want to keep my dogs and not get rid of them like a lot of people do !!

Look scott, I've read the whole thread and I feel for you, I really do. But Possibly, if any of your friends are close by, if you trust them enough ask them to take one of the dogs for you whilst you sort this situation out?

your not the only one to pay bills i'm on my own i always put some money away for my dogs becasue i knew i couldn't afford an big bill up front.
you have to cut back on things you dodn't need like beers or whatever else (have see your youtube videos ) you do so you you can pay for vet bills.

You are going to have to find a way to keep them seperated. A second hand crate would be usefull or if not can you put them in seperate rooms while you are out of the house?

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
The pants should help prevent that from happening. Can you not keep them in seperate rooms while you are asleep?
Guest- Guest
Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
Pants and a seperate cage would do the trick. Pants to save the mess and also from blade successfully mounting her .. seperate cage for giving them both space for when you are in bed after a night shift. You can definitley manage this situation by getting the cage and pants. Check the local paper, or online free ad sites for cages that could very well be going for free : )

Although you can delay a season before it starts, you can't stop it it once it has already started, I'm afraid.

Scott, you need to understand that many people on here are more than aware of the problems in rescue centres, and they can see one of your dogs or their pups ending up there! Nobody's trying to be nasty to you, or unhelpful, but it's frustrating to give advice & you won't take any of it, ie crating, or getting someone to look after Blade for a few weeks.
jstaff wrote:The pants should help prevent that from happening. Can you not keep them in seperate rooms while you are asleep?
The pants won't stop them mating - you have to keep them seperate, it's the only way. You either need to get a crate & rotate one in & one out all the time, or you're going to have to keep them in seperate rooms with the door shut at all times. Unless, of course, a friend or one of your family can take one of the dogs (preferably Blade) for 3 to 4 weeks.
In any event you must do everything you can to prevent them mating.
Guest- Guest
Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
You can use pants to stop mating and there are ones specially made for it but i agree with Caryll that it's not the best method and i doubt you could leave them alone .easier to keep them seperate. you are going to have a knackering few weeks if they are both there but puppies would be a a hell of a lot worse. I used to work nights and the dogs got into the routine of a walk when i came home and then i got up after 4hours for another walk before another few hours kip later.

They won't work! If left alone for any time they'll get those pants off!

Maybe it isn't fair to leave her in a cage, but what would you rather do? Let her get pregnant at her first season? Would that be fair to her? I'm sorry, Scott, but you've asked for advice & you're putting obstacles in the way of everything anyone's said. Either seperate them or give one of them up to a rescue centre.

Then listen to what you are being told! At the moment it isn't about you giving up on them, it's about avoiding an unwanted pregnancy with a female that is little more than a pup!
scott61985 wrote:They get caught after the bleeding stops she started yesterday so 21 days but il keep checking then when she stops another 10 to 14 days cooling off thats when blade will try
She will be receptive to males from about 10 days after the bleeding starts. It isn't an exact science! In the meantime, even if she isn't receptive, Blade will want to mate with her & he'll be a complete pain in the a*se. You should keep them seperated from the start to avoid problems. The whole season lasts about 21 days, but it can be anything from 18 to 28 days in reality.
I know you think you're trying to do the best for your dogs, but you must realise (the sooner the better) that you're not! You must seperate the two of them NOW. Not only do you need to avoid them mating, you have to think of Zena's age; she's far too young to have puppies, and you're taking risks with her long term health by keeping the two of them together.
I'm sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but it has to be said.

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
I have just read all this through and I know myelf how hard it can be financially. And that is with being in a relationship too. I do think that you need to listen to the advice though and keep them seperate. It may not be fair for Zena to be shut in a cage for a long time, but it is much fairer for her to be in a cage and not pregnant with pups, and that will be a much higher expense for you!
A pregnancy can so easily be prevented, like the others have said you can rotate them in the cage so there is no need to just keep one shut away. Or an alternative is that when you are asleep then you need to take one in the room with you and shut the door.
The other thing I am also concerned about is you say that they sleep when you are at work so that is ok. Unfortunately with a bitch in season Blade is not going to know that it is night time and he should be sleeping, so he will mount her when your not there anyway.
Personally I think the best solution is to shut Zena in a cage when your in work, and take either one of the dogs with you to your room when your home but sleeping.
Either that or rehome one of them, as this is your only other option.
I await the news of a pregnancy soon, as I unfortunately believe since you are resistant to take the advice so helpfully given the inevitable will happen

Listen, Scott, I understand that it's hard for you. You have loads of stress right now & with this on top of it all you must feel like the world & its family are against you right now. My last post to you was because you said it was unfair to keep Zena caged & that made it sounds like you didn't intend to do it. Believe me, caging her for 3 weeks is far kinder than letting her get pregnant at her age. You can't rely on them sleeping at night & therefore not getting up to anything (won't happen!), and you can't rely on 'pants' to stop them mating (again, won't happen!).
Blade will want to mate right from the get go, and Zena will accept him at some time over the next 2 weeks. And believe me, I've known a bitch to be ready to mate on day 7 or 8 of her season! Don't rely on anything other than complete seperation.[b]
It probably feels that we're all getting on at you, and maybe we are, but in the long term it'll not only save Zena from getting pregnant & having pups way too early (if she ever should anyway!) it'll also save you a helluva lot in vet's fees! We have your & Zena's best interests at heart - honestly we do!

Re: helpw with zena iam lost lol
A lot of good suggestions have been given and I can't really add to them but I just wanted to say about keeping Zena in her crate. I have 2 females so I dont have to worry about them mating but I do keep Bella in her crate when I am out or at night to keep them seperated. I do sometimes feel like it's unfair especially when they seem to just sleep when I'm out but in the long run I know they are safe and I have peace of mind.

Hey Scott, I know you love Blade & Zena more than anything else and I'm sorry if we all come across a bit forceful in our posts, but we are only trying to suggest options to help you through the next few weeks, so you can get to other side and have Blade or Zena desexed.
I know it's hard to respond individually to all of us, which means you keep seeing very similar suggestions on how to deal with the situation.
I can see you've taken a few on board, which means you have read and understood where we are all coming from.
I'm sure by now you have realised the gravity of the situation you are now stuck in with your two gorgeous dogs and are doing everything you can as a responsible dog owner to ensure these two get the best in life. ><

Aw see Scott, we're not all out to get you. It's good that you're doing what you can, and that will hopefully prevent any unwanted accidents. Can I put my 2 pennies in and say that when it comes to spaying/neutering, if you can only do one, it'll be better to neuter Blade. It's a much less invasive procedure for a dog, recovery time is quick, and it's less expensive for you.
