There is only one opiion the best way to decide is to look at it from all aspects I agree with Steve

Re: The Dogs ********
I wouldn't say it is scare mongering.
Its a known fact that animal charities, and vets encourage neutering dogs, and getting bitches spayed.
Is it better that there are so many stray dogs and rescue dogs that need homes?
Responsible, and reputable breeders the add woudn't concern or effect.
So those that allow there dogs to run wild, or don't ensure they cannot get out of the back garden shouldn't be encouraged?
My vet suggested I got Bode spayed, Im no expert, but was told of the health benefits (I'm still going to do a lot of research first) but if the health benefits are true, is that not a good enough reason alone?
Hope I've not offended anyone by posting it up, I personally thought it was a funny add, and the bit about the number of staffys that need homes was the part that made me see the serious side to it too.

Re: The Dogs ********
how i see it you could get your dog done to stop cancer there but there are 100s of cancer, illness and so on lined up to replace that, it just scare mongering to stop unwanted litters but as fail year after year! they should be campgainning to get the goverment to change our soicety that the problem no body cares anymore.

unwanted litters?
I welcome scare mongering then if it helps, surely everyone here would, nobody wants more pups without homes?
Maybe there are better methods to campain, I'm no expert, I personally think nobody should be allowed to own, breed, buy, or sell a dog without all the peoples details involved, the dog being microchipped, vaccinations etc, might put off some of the irrisponsible ones that wouldnt want to spend the time, money or be known to authorities etc..?

Re: The Dogs ********
they just wasting their time when i was an young kid only a few people had dogs becasue not alot of people could afford them and now we have kids buy and bredding them becasue they know they can get away with murder.
Re: The Dogs ********
hmmm, its a shame!
What other options do they have?
I have to agree, some of the people I see that own dogs, and the way they treat them is worrying, I'm no saint, but of the things I was taught when growing up.
Never hit a woman.
Never hurt an animal.
as well as the other normal things we teach our kids..
I guess, thinking about the attitude of "most" / "some" kids these days, trying to encourage any good behaviour seems like banging your head against a brick wall, just a shame that other people / animals have to suffer in the process of others stupidity.

Re: The Dogs ********
what i would do is extreme but i think the goverment needs to do some extreme thing to fix it society problem.
1) home check on kids who keeps getting in trouble, (some type of fine if the mum and dad get their kid under control)
2) school lesson for young perents age 21 below
3) 5 years national service for kids who dont goto collage or uni

Re: The Dogs ********
I have to agree with Steve, everyone is obsessed with neutering as a cure for everything, I for one will NOT be neutering my lad, and i think education of some sort is the key

Re: The Dogs ********
As a charity, it will always endorse neutering. I for one agree. I don't think it will solve a problem, don't really think its scare mongering but its a promotion of a prevention that will help rescue shelters that are overloaded with dogs.

Re: The Dogs ********
great title for the campaign love the idea of giving someone a pair. i always said my brother in law needs to grow a pair so maybe i will buy him some he might take the hint

Re: The Dogs ********
but bad owners wont get them neutered/spaded or care if they dogs get out and that where the problem lies.
untill you get to core of the problem IMO (society) the problem is going to get worse.

Re: The Dogs ********
I agree, it needs to be wider spread to even start solving the breeding problems/ownershipthat we have, but an awareness needs to be made, its better to be in the public eye than shy away. IMO this brings awareness.

Re: The Dogs ********
My parents always had boy dogs until I planted one of the staff pups on there lap we rescued, mine being the other.
They never had there dogs done, but then there dogs were always supervised when out, and looked after properly.
I think the campaign is obviously aimed at a certain type of dog owner, and good advice for those owners, however, as Steve points out, would they care anyway?
There really should be much tighter restrictions on owning and breeding, and definately registration for all dogs like there are with babies.
Just to add, in respect to the illness aggression hyper over sexual side of things, my parents dogs never had an issue, although they were always lab cross breeds if that makes a difference, but the youngest any of there dogs dies was 14, and he was put down after being on meds for a year, just old age, and arthritis.. (which is why I'm skeptical when the vet encouraged me to get Bode spayed, is it for health reasons, or money / unwanted litters?)

Re: The Dogs ********
tighter restrictionsis hard to enforce we need some how turn the clock back a few decades, and try to make people care about thier family and pets again.

so true. back street breeders dont care what happens to the pups they just want the money and for this reason they would never get their dog done. even if it were policed through the vets the scum would give false details so it can never be enforced

Re: The Dogs ********
I think the ad was cute and funny, its like a play on the superfund ads we have here (not sure if you'd have them) but they are similar.
I think yes there is more research to be done if you want your dog desexed, and if you are a switched on dog owner, the thing is, I wouldn't call them bad owners, but ignorant owners, who don't put in the efforts of researching like we dog, if one of them saw this ad and decided to get their dog done, I think that is for the best.
of course there are bad owners, but there are owners who have the best intentions for there dog, just not the education.
