Matilda - Rehomed
Matilda is a stunning 2 year old Staffie x and is currently living in foster care in Cardiff.
The Matilda fact file
Dog status: Tends to be a bit over excited and can be boisterous when she first meets dogs. Will settle once she gets to know them.
Cat status: Not in foster with cats but will chase them in the garden
Child status: Good but she is a bouncy girl so would need children aged 8 years plus
House training: Very good
Home alone: Happy to be left for a few hours if she has had a good walk and has a chew or activity toy. Could live with a full time worker.
Basic training: Matilda is an easy pupil as she is attentive and eager to please.
Matilda is everything that epitomises a Hope dog. A dog who was rejected, saved and is now ready to start a new life. She is a wonderful dog with a comical and loving personality.
Matilda came to us from Cardiff pound where she had spent many, many months waiting in their kennels. We took her on and again she had to wait in kennels for a foster offer to come through. She has now been extensively assessed by her foster home, loved and cared for and we have watched her bloom and develop in to the dog she is now.
Matilda is a very loving and affectionate dog and adores people and their company. She is very well handled and socialised with people and even sees a trip to the vets as a wonderful social day out. matilda has been good with children she has spent time with in her foster home but she is a bouncy and exhuberant dog so we would prefer her to live with children over the age of 8 years who are used to dogs.
Matilda lacked some early socialisation with other dogs and then was kennelled for a long time. This meant she spent many months in the company of other stressed dogs. When she would go for a walk she would be very excited and she learnt this as a pattern of behaviour. She can now becomes over excited when she greets other dogs and this affects her behaviour towards them.
Her foster carer has been working with our trainer Sian of Cardiff dog training club and behaviourist Jen Underwood of Petrouble. Matilda is an excellent student and has been introduced to the clicker.
She has been introduced to and developed relationships with other dogs, her foster carer explains-
'Careful introduction were made with my friends 2 JTR’s; Tyla (4, Male) and Pippin (7, female) and Tilly now spends lots of time with them, in our house and theirs, they go on lots of walks together and she is fantastic with them. She’s not possessive with her food or toys and always looks visibly dejected when they leave. She’s really well behaved with them and obviously enjoys their company.'
Marilda could be rehomed with other dogs if careful introductions could be made and the other dogs were calm and well socialised and could be a good role model for Matilda. She of course be rehomed as the only dog.
Tilly is an active dog who loves her walks and would need to get out and about daily to keep her stimulated and work on her social skills. She has a good jump meaning she would need a secure garden.
Matilda is good when she has been left on her own as long as she has had a walk and has something she could chew on should she wish. She could be rehomed with a full time worker if she had someone visiting and walking her in the middle of the day. They would need to be committed at other times to ensuring she received enough mental and physical stimulation.
All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Oh, Matilda is adorable, I hope she will finally find her home soon
I plan to rescue a staffy as soon as Stella is a bit bigger and more trained but I'm afraid that I would not pass the "home check"....private tennant, working full time (from home now, though, which is brilliant), living on my own, foreign... I know that all these things would probably be assessed as a potential threat? So I'll see in a year or so... There are SO many dogs who would need homes...
Good Luck and thanks for your hard work

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Not all rescues have blanket policies for rehoming.
Hope assesses each dog for its own needs and the new home would be matched with these needs - so it works best for the dog AND the new owner. So sometimes a dog isnt right for that home but another dog could be perfect.
Being a private tenant does NOT stop you passing a homecheck
Working full time does NOT stop you passing a homecheck, especially when working from home!
Living on your own does NOT stop you passing the homecheck
And being foreign does NOT stop you passing a homecheck!
As a side not Matildas fact file specifically states she could live with a full time worker

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Hi,
thanx,
that's great, so I have a chance I remember somebody told me they had been rejected because of living in a flat so I was worried, I'm renting a wee house, though But now it's too early...for Matilda, I'm afraid, I need to focus on Stella and her recall (she's is 6 and half months and she runs away to play when she sees dogs, I have to train and train with biscuits ) so I guess next summer earliest would be the right time...
I hope Matilda will find her home the soonest possible, it's a shame that so many dogs don't have their permanent people and their sofas to cuddle on....
Good Luck to her and to all others, thanx ><

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
I've not posted for a while. Tilly is doing really well, she's such a lovely, affectionate, sweet girl.
She's really calmed down with other dogs now and loves nothing better than visiting Tyla and Pippin the JTR's or having them around the house to play, better still she enjoys running around the fields or woods with Tyla, she becomes quite dejected when they leave now bless her
She's responding really well to clicker training, lead work and is proving to be a very attentive an obedient girl. She also loves baths, that's a first in my experience!
I'll post more soon but here are some recent photos:

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Hi,
poor wee soul Tilly, how is she?
I feel terrible for her, I would go for her immediately but I just know it would not be responsible just now...Stella is absolutely sweet and eager to please and communicates all the time but needs to be on leash most of the time because of her "overfriendliness" and I train her recall as much as I can and I think having 2 dogs on walks all the time would be too much; I live in a wee wee rented house where actually the landlord does not know at all I have a dog not to mention 2; work and personal situation are not great either... So all I can do is keep fingers crossed for her. Please keep us posted Thanks a lot for all your hard work and help I HOPE that Tilly will find her home soon

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Thank you for thinking of Tilly
She is in a wonderful foster home where she can stay as long as needed She does need a new home but there is no rush and the right home will come along.
Maybe in the future when Stella ismore settled and life is a bit calmer there will be a perfect match waiting for you

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
Hi,
thanks, that's good that Tilly is safe and cosy It must be terrible for them in kennels alone... I can't imagine.
I will defo stay in touch! Stella is fine - she just needs to mature a bit (she's 8 months) and I need to sort out my stuff...
Thanks again, best wishes

Re: Matilda - Rehomed
A huge thanks to all at Hope for the support and all at the GSD Club Of Wales who train us as well as the hounds!
She's become an absolute star now she's had chance to settle. Bright as a button too.
Here's a quick snap of Tilly basking in the glory of her bronze (she's actually basking in the glory of a good roll in fox poo also) You can really see the Boxer in here:
And she's learning to play the didgeridoo
