Could someone please help.Rolling in other dogs fecal matter :(
Could someone please help. I have a male terrier Spark. When i take him to the park and let him off leash, I'll sometimes catch him rolling in other dogs fecal matter. Why does he do that? More importantly, how can I get him to stop? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A lot of dogs do this fortunatly mine isn't one! I guess you are just going to have to keep stopping him and be one step ahead! Sorry not much help, baby wipes are also a good thing to carry

Dogs roll in things to disguise their scent & to smell 'nice' ! The only way you'll stop him is to make sure you're right by him when he goes to roll & yell "No!" and move him away quickly.
Unfirtunately a lot of dogs do thid (my own included) and there isn't an awful lot you can do.

As Caryll and Janey have said, it's very common. Mine does it all the time, fox poo is his favourite. If it's dog poo, he has a quick roll, but if it's fox poo, he trys to bath himself in it!! Baby wipes, as suggested, are invaluable if you have a dog that does this, I always carry them. Mine will 'leave it' if I tell him to, but if he's off lead, he'll roll before I even know it's there!
Unfortuntately, as wonderful and loving as they are, they really do have some disgusting habits, and this is one of them. Be thankful he isn't eating it, as many of them do!!

Agree with above. He is trying to hide his scent and it's a natural instinct. You can stop it if you are right there and paying attention but if not I don't think it is preventable.
