Obedience classes ?
Hi guys,
Just after some personal views I am. I would like to take Monty to one.
1 - Just for 'out of interest' and to give me some ideas.
2 - For the social activity it involves (being with people, other dogs - which evidently he absolutely loves).
Have you been to any, are they worth it ?

Re: Obedience classes ?
Not done it myself, but would certainly reccomend puppy classes, as long as you look into them first Xx

Re: Obedience classes ?
I used to run a dog training club (many years ago!) and I've always thought that, provided the trainers are qualified & sympathetic to you and you dog (individually, without steriotyping) then they are a really good idea.
The best way is to go along without your dog & see what goes on there. Chat to the trainers & some of the people attending & see what they think. Then, if you like it, take your dog along for a couple of sessions, but just sit on the sidelines so that he gets used to all the other dogs around him.
When you fund a club, make sure that the trainers are qualified, and KC registered (that makes sure that their qualifications are up to date). It's nice if they also run classes for the Good Citizen Awards.

Re: Obedience classes ?
Thanks both. My sister took Monty for a walk up the shop while I was in work the other week, and she bumped into an old friend of mine who told my sister, she takes her puppy to puppy classes and gave me her number, but I've never gotten round to it. I think I will give it a bash and see what Monty can get out of it. Caryll, if I do join one, do they let you know they are KC registered, qualifications etc, or do I need to ask that myself ? i'd feel a bit rude if I'd have to ask lol

If they have a website then it should be on there. Otherwise, just ask - if they are registered they won't mind you asking at all!
Have a look at the Kennel Club website. There's a list of Good Citizen Clubs here...

Yes, we can all train at home, but the training is much better when it's learnt with the distraction of other dogs around.

Oh superb ! Found they do one in Swansea, but they don't have a website. It's less than a mile away :-D I'll do some digging on Google, bound to be something on there to give me more info.

Re: Obedience classes ?
Never been to them before but sounds like a good idea if the trainers are good.
