Hello staffie mad friends!!
Hi guys, my name is Zoe and I live in North Wales with my hubby, son and 6 dogs (1 greyhound, 3 lurchers, collie cross and Coco my staffie).
Seeing as this is a staffie forum I'll just talk about Coco. She's a rescue. My hubby and I work in dog rescue and she was in the pound waiting to be put to sleep We had gone to save 4 other dogs and saw her in the corner of a kennel looking really sad. She had a terrible skin condition and fur loss and covered in pustules. She had 2 hours to go before PTS! So we decided as she looked so bad, we would keep her...she couldn't possib;y be rehomed....at least that's what we decided because we fell in love with her before we returned home!!
She still has this awful skin although it is getting better in that we've been able to hold off the steroid antibiotic cycle for 3 months now!
I know a lot of staffies have skin probs, so I'm hoping for your help and experience on here from people who are in the know.
I've never had a staffie before (well Coco's a cross but more staff than anything!) and I have to say she is THE most beautiful soul I have ever had the pleasure to meet! Despite her major baldness....I think she's stunning!
Look forward to chatting to you all on here xxx

Re: Hello staffie mad friends!!
Hi Zoe and Coco and welcome from Rocky and me. Rocky is also a rescue and Staffy cross. Good on the rescue. I am sure someone here will be able to help/advise you with the skin problem, sorry I have not personally come across it yet with Rocky. Good luck with Coco sure she will turn out to be a wonderful companion.

Re: Hello staffie mad friends!!
Welcome! Good job rescuing Coco. I do not have any experience with this sort of skin disorder myself, but a friend of mine (who introduced me to the breed) rescued one with horrible skin (demodex, cysts etc). It eventually cleared up and has not returned and it has been about 10 years. It does take a while (I think they told me it was almost a year before it was all clear).

Re: Hello staffie mad friends!!
Fantastic job , makes me remeber how rewarding it was for us (2 dogs and 2 cats through our lives though Tilly was bought ) I don't think there is anything in the world could ever be more rewarding than to pull an animal from a miserable life (or worse) and see them happy ><

Re: Hello staffie mad friends!!
Thanks again everyone! It certainly is rewarding. I've always got difficult to home dogs. Jenny and Danny were in kennels for ages...no one wanted them. Jenny was terribly abused which affected her so badly. She was beaten and starved and was very close to death. She had 3 homes before us and she was only 2 when we got her. Now she is a picture of health and happy. It was hard work but oh so worth it. Guinness is a big boy and no one wanted him as he was too big....perfect for me. Poppy was also difficult to home. And my little Coco's skin condition meant that everyone thought she was ugly!! I fell in love with her because she had little fur and was covered in pus filled spots!! She is a sweet and beautiful girl and very loving.
The only one of mine not to have been dumped or mistreated is Otis. He is my collie Bess's (RIP) pup. He's a babe!

Welcome to the forum from me and my girls Kita & Izzy
Brilliant pic of all your gorgeous dogalogs, but what sad things they have had to endure. So glad they now have such a loving home to grow old in.
