Re: Indian bull terrier
yes they are majorly white in colour, but some times there are some small patches of other colours also seen but mainly white. James dogs were also white straight nose not like present bull terriers (egg head) .bbimson wrote:Indian bull terrier wrote:nopes they are male female. my breeding pair from different lines.bbimson wrote:2 boys I'm guessing? Re: Indian bull terrier
Whilst I appreciate that your dogs look in very good condition, I'm afraid I'm not keen on this type of breed, which have been crossed with the gull ter. Sorry, I hope I haven't offended you, I don't mean to - just not my type of dog!

Actually, they're not. The dogs that are being bred to look like the 'old style' BT have been heavily crossed with other local dogs (both in India & here) to get back to Hinks' type of dog, although I believe that the Indian BT is actually larger than Hinks' dogs were.
Impressive looking dogs, though.

Steve wrote:would these be class has pitbul type in the uk?
That's a moot point. They are being bred in the UK as Bull Terriers, and haven't yet attracted the attention of the powers that be. The people breeding them say no, they're not 'types', but as they are essentially cross breeds, yes they could be considered pit types.

Re: Indian bull terrier
They are not gull terr nor they have been crossed with gull terr. Gull terr are bigger than this dogs and are found in Pakistan not in India, do a search on it and you would come to know.My dogs male is 16 inches and female 17 inches at withers.Caryll wrote:Whilst I appreciate that your dogs look in very good condition, I'm afraid I'm not keen on this type of breed, which have been crossed with the gull ter. Re: Indian bull terrier
The information I found online said that the gull terr was used in the formation of these dogs, I'm not saying that these are Gull Terr (although some sites say that they are the same, just different types). I'm not criticising, please don't take me wrong.
I just much prefer the present day BT!

Intentions in India to breed this type of dogs has never been to make it look like old type dogs, villages where this breed exist, they dont even know who James hinks was, they bred this dogs in the type that came with britishers to India because they fight well and can out perform any other dog breed in dog fight.Caryll wrote:The information I found online said that the gull terr was used in the formation of these dogs, I'm not saying that these are Gull Terr (although some sites say that they are the same, just different types). Unfortunately, they are still bred to fight.

true they are still bred for fight and that is what has made this breed survive and come so far. My intentions are just the reverse about this breed.Caryll wrote:Indian bull terrier wrote: Intentions in India to breed this type of dogs has never been to make it look like old type dogs, villages where this breed exist, they dont even know who James hinks was, they bred this dogs in the type that came with britishers to India because they fight well and can out perform any other dog breed in dog fight.

The thing is, they must have been crossed with something, as there would not have been enough dogs to keep the line going otherwise!
I took this from a web site about Indian Bull Terriers & game bred Bull Terriers...
"There are many in Pakistan and India who say that the Indian Bull Terrier or Gull Ter is actually the original Hink's dog."
It is obviously not the original Hinks' dog as said above, but this site actually calls them Gull Ter. Another site mentions them as one of three types of gull ter.

Re: Indian bull terrier
I am really glad to hear that you rescued these dogs and that you are standing against fighting! What are these fellas like? I assume they share much of the BT characteristics then? I know it is hard to change people's oppinions especially about dogs that were once used to fight. Dog aggressive and people aggressive are not the same. Again, welcome and good job rescueing!

I fear that the 'sport' of fighting will continue, even though you (and no doubt some others) would like it to stop. It is too popular in your country, and the government won't ban it.

Why does it looks obvious to you?
Secondly i am not talking about gull terrs of Pakistan i again repeat this, this are Indian bull terriers different than pak versions. gull terr are mix between bully and Ibt, they are larger than Ibt in size.
