West Highland Terrier&Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Together?
Hi Everyone . I am 16 and own a west highland terrier, and I'm looking into getting a 2nd dog
Oscar is 2 years old, and is the joy of my life, he is lovely
i would love too get a staffie to accompany him, all the staffies i have met have been Lovely
Some questions
Would the staffie most likely get a long with Oscar?
Would a male or female be better? My preference is for a girlie..
Is the exercise Oscar gets, enough for a staffie?
Oscar gets a 30 minute walk in the Morning, and a 30-40 minute walk at about 4pm

Most often if you have a male a female is the most likely option for them to get along. Is your male dog neutered?
The exercise is about right but may need to be increased just a little bit as Staffy are very energetic. This can also be done by training sessions two or three times a day for 5-10 minutes.
Does your current dog socialize with other dogs?

Where would you be getting the Staffy from? Would it be possible for the two of them to meet up on neutral ground. If from an animal shelter you may be able to take your dog in to meet up there.
As for exercise that sounds about right for a fully grown Staffy but would depend on it's age. If very young then shorten the amount of time out on their walk. About 5 minutes for every month of age.
Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

If its a staffy pup you are getting they sound grow up fine, does your westy get on ok with other dogs, he might do outside but it could be different in his home with them, as for getting a female staff you will start to get problems when she comes in to season unless your male as had his bits removed. as for the exercise a adult staffy would need more than 30 mins walk in the morning they are high energy dogs i take mine 90 mins in the morning thats walking running and swimming and a 45 min walk at teatime. good luck

It all depends on what your west would make of another dog in his home. As he has been neutered then I would say your best bet would be to look for a female staff. Like the others have said though they are high energy dogs so you may need to walk it more than your westy. Rescuing is a great option but you will need to be prepared for taking on the role of continuing training with them and be aware that they may not have had a great start in life. But as long as your prepared to put the time and love in you will end up with a smashing dog. If you are heading for rescuing then have a look around and go and meet some dogs, the rescue centre will know whether or not they are suited to living with other dogs or if they are right for you and your lifestyle etc.
Just take the time to look into it all and meet a few dogs.
There is a westie and staff combo living around here. A guy walks them up here everyday and they seem to get on great! Not sure what gender they are though!

We have a 6 1/2 year old westie cross parsons jack russell and we got Polly our staffy last March wen she was about 9 weeks old, they get along really well and play and cuddle together all the time. Busta also protects Polly and gets between her and other dogs when we are out if she looks nervous or worried. He has loved her since she arrived and she is really carefull about his back leg which he has had a ruptured cruciate ligament, they play really rough but she never hurts him.

We go on long walks and Polly runs around loads more than Busta so she gets plenty of exercise and he gets loads too, in fact she is usually panting and flopping on the floor before he is

Every dog is different. You know your dog best, so if you know he would love a full time best bud, you are probably correct. Usually less trouble with opposite sexes but two of the same can work too if they are the right dogs. I have two males that love each other very much. Let them meet and see how it goes. As for walking it may be enough if they play a lot together vigorously as well, otherwise you may have to do more for the Staffy or they will find stuff to do!
