Re: Kongs
Make sure you get a Kong, not a replica, if it doesn't have two holes it can cause a vacuum and dogs tongue can get stuck. (Probably get one from ebay)

Pet shops often only sell the smaller ones. They don't really cater for the bully breeds!

Re: Kongs
Logan likes the frozen peanut butter one, but have to give him little amounts in it until his belly can cope with it! I try and scrape it to the inside as far down as i can with a little spoon or knife. that keeps him busy! he also likes the cheese spread ( i make sure its low-fat!) and in the summer i'm gonna try frozen juice. Just pop it in a cup, fill with juice and pop in the freezer. not sure how long it would last on a hot day! oh yeah....and any sandwich paste...tuna,beef,salmon etc.

Re: Kongs
Fudge loves hers and I've been filling it with tuna or paste. What other things can I fill it with and freeze?
Also which tuna is the correct one to use? Before getting the Kongo I read that only one type of tuna should be used ie: in spring water but I can't remember which it was or where I read it. I'm using tuna in spring water at the moment.

Re: Kongs
Daisy has been through 3 or 4 kongs, and finally we got her a larger size, and that has helped her from destroying it...I have some recipes from when we were in obience classes, I'll have to find them and get them typed up on here for you guys.

Re: Kongs
I must say thanks to this site for providing the idea of the Kong for me, it helps a lot and I love the idea that she is rewarded for play and has an attention diverter on the odd occasion I'm out of the home and/or busy ><
I vary the filling and make it as packed as possible to make it more of a challenge & different, otherwise, its empty in no time. Any of, or mix and match of the following :-
Kibble (not her regular one), Liver kong paste, various freebie dog treats , dried fish skins, cut up dried tripe sticks , dog chocolate drops.

Re: Kongs
Thanks for all the cool ideas! I have been wondering what to shove in Troy's Kong.
What fruit is okay for them to eat then? I am trying to avoid anything he might be allergic to, such as dairy, grains and peanuts.

Re: Kongs
What about this? Saw it on the net whilst browsing for ideas!
?
What to stuff
This is best used with a kong or similar as it will ooze out of anything which is open at both ends.
Ingredients
1 or 2 cooking apples (depending on the size of your kong)
1 tbsp water
1tsp honey (less or none at all for senior dogs and dogs on a weight loss diet)
How to stuff it
Peel and core the apples. Chop up the remaining flesh and put it in a pan along with the water to stew. Boil the mixture with a lid on for around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s become soft.
If you’re using honey, stir it into the stewed apple.
Allow the mixture to cool completely then use it to stuff your kong.
Tips
If you want to give your dog the full ‘apple bobbing’ experience, get a clean piece of strong cord and thread it through your kong before you stuff it. Tie a big knot in the cord at the ‘small hole’ end of the kong so the cord can’t go through the small hole. Then stuff the kong. When you’re ready, tie the end of the cord to a tree branch so the kong is just off the ground (how high you put it will depend on how tall your dog is, but the dog should be able to reach it easily). Then let your dog at it and see how long it takes him to empty the ‘bobbing’ kong!

I normally feed Tia James well Beloved dry food.
For a change I put a couple of spoon fulls, of well beloved wet food in the kong and froze it! She loved it and kept her quiet for ages.
