Kongs!!
Hi all i am a newbie and this is my very first post
I have a 8 year old staffie who is my best friend.
He has the usual bouncy excitable traits.
The question i want to ask you guys is my dog is very well crate trained, when we have guests over as some are not dog lovers we put our dog in his crate. I have invested in two kong toys which i must say the quality of these toys are brilliant. But i wondered what you guys tend to put in the kong to last longer than 2 minutes lol. I have tried the kong paste you can buy but it seems an expensive way of doing it at £7 ago. I would like obviously to keep the food in the kong healthy as i can, easy to make and store as i may need to use it when guests call in out the blue.
Your help and knowledge on this would be much appreciated.

Hiya Mark, Maya loves Cheddar Cheese in her Kong. I really pack it in there, and it does last her quite a while Also, another good one is to plug the small end with a bit of Cheese, fill with Yogurt and Freeze. And lastly, in Maya`s case, a fried sausage, again stuffed in so it`s not so easy to get out !
I`m sure others will be along with their favourites as well

Re: Kongs!!
my buddy has scrambled egg frozen I always keep one kong in the freezer for such requirements as unexpected guests ... or he has some kibble in it sealed with peanut butter but this doesn't last too long, or mashed banana and yoghurt frozen - cream cheese and sausages blended and frozen is also a favourite

Re: Kongs!!
I buy just supermarket own brand just check it does not contain xylitol which is normally found n the more up market brands as it can be dangerous to dogs ( its a sweetner) and can cause liver damage ..I have never given Buddy a whole Kong full I normally use it to plug the top or mix it with banana - I guess you could give a whole one not sure what the end results would be later in the day tho LOL

Re: Kongs!!
yes - you can mix the banana with some natural yoghurt as well - I normally mash the banana up well or blend it add a bit of yoghurt and then plug with peanut butter and freeze it if you can stand the kong up in a mug in the freezer helps if not I wrap mine in some foil and lay it down just in case of leaks ..

Re: Kongs!!
I do the banana one too Misty loves that. Also last week I was experimenting and put some strawberries in the blender and then poured the liquid in her kongs and froze them. She loved it! Also blended carrot also goes down a treat in her Kong.

Re: Kongs!!
We put all kinds of things in our Kongs:
A little bit of peanut butter smeared on the inside which they spend ages licking off (usually if they don't need a snack but need to be kept entertained!)
Half a slice of bread with whatever on (PB, meat paste etc) rolled up and stuffed into the Kong, that's always fun to try and get out again
Half a Bonio with the broken end dipped into PB, then put that end down into the Kong - I squeeze the bigger end so I can slot the Bonio in, then once in it doesn't fall out easily and rattles about making it harder to get out
A jar of cheap meat paste (sandwich stuff) - 25p from Tesco, pretty much fills a Kong and is waaaaaayyyyy cheaper than the Kong branded paste
Anything frozen, good for summer and/or also takes quite some time to get out. Sometimes if I know I need to be out for a few hours, I'll soak some kibble in weak stock or gravy then freeze. Generally that's half their daily food allowance in there so usually I give that as part of their breakfast or tea
Anything else... leftover Sunday lunch, fish skins, peas, carrots, potatoes, whatever. As long as your food isn't heavy with stuff poisonous to dogs and it's small part of their daily food allowance then go for it
