As Lola has now been on a barf diet for quite a while now but has gone off it.

I have her food delivered fron a regular source and her food usually entails mince beef, beef and kidney, beef, tripe, lamb, chicken, chicken carcarss, turkey necks, and chicken wings.

she has bones for breakfast and meat for tea. she did love all of this until about a 2 months ago. She has gone off most of the meat, but still eats all her bones. some nights she won't eat at all or she will just pick at it.
I therefore gave her biscuits some nights, the first night she will eat it all and the second and following nights she will just pick.

she is well and healthy in herself.

I want to keep her on barf as she maintains a nice weight and her poo's are firm and very little.

With the biscuits she poo's almost most of it out and loses weight, not drastically, but I don't feel she is getting the best being on biscuits.

so i am at a loss as to what to do.

Any ideas?

It's possible that you're either giving her too much, and she isn't hungry in the evenings, or that she doesn't like mince.

Dempsey won't touch mince - he'd rather go hungry. So I give him frozen beef & tripe chunks as well as his bones.

She will eat the minced chicken, but that's about it now and I couldn't just give her bones and minced chicken.

The place i have her food from only do minced stuff.

Have you thought about ordering online? I know you need to order a fair bit, but if you've room in your freezer it works out quite cheap.

If you have a really picky barf eater you can also try sardines. They are pretty good if they are fresh. I give some and mine would rather eat that than anything else. However, Monte would eat until he burst I think so it may just be that you either have a picky eater or lola is not hungry if she had too much the previous evening. They won't let themselves starve. I'm sure it will all work out!

Billy is getting the same way, it has got to the point now where we are having to cook most of his meat/chicken
he does not like mince, still gets his bones raw

Caryll is it ok for him to have it cooked, i know its not ideal, or should we try him on dry

(sorry to hijack the thread)

Raw feeding really isn't the be all & end all. I know I've said it before, but it doesn't suit everyone or every dog. If your dog is happier on dry food & does well on it, then by all means feed dry.

If you want to mix them, then let him have his raw bone in the morning & feed dry at night. He won't suffer any ill effects!

It's strange, isn't it? You'd think that all dogs would like the same type of thing, but they all have different tastes - I suppose that's why the pet food industry is so huge!

A friend of mine has Bull Terriers & he has raw fed for years. His bitch had a litter of 5 pups about a year ago & the pups were reared on raw. When they went to their new homes, a raw diet sheet was sent with them.

Only two of the pups are still on raw. One, the owners didn't like it, so changed to dry. The other two got to about 6 months & just wouldn't eat it any more!

Yes it's really strange.

Lola loved her raw for ages, but gradually just went off it, but loves her bones.

Ben, Lola used to be on sardines, pilchards and raw eggs but she had an allergy so we stopped everything except the barf.

I think I've narrowed it down to eggs. In one week she had four and came out like before with loads of lumps and was riffing.

I think I'm just going to try a different place and get her chunks and see how she gets on with that. I may be feeding her too much aswell, so may cut down her food.
Caryll was glad to read I could still keep her on her bones if we have no other alternative but to put her back onto dried, as she loves her bones the most.
