Swedish health survey
In 2010 the Swedish breedclub did a survey about our staffies health. I would like to hear your thoughts about the survey and the result. Can we apply the results in other countries?
Answers about 651 dogs were reported (About 4000 staffies has been registered in Sweden past ten years)
About the result:
* 5-10 % has/had diceases due to allergy och skin problems - like demodikos, allergy for food or pollen
* About 5 % has/had problems with muscles and joint, like knees, eldows, back, hip and paw.
* 13 of the 651 has/had epilepsy
* 8% of the bitches had pyometra.
* Less than five reported Heritage cataract, PHTVL/PHPV
* None reported L2-Hga/Ataxia
60% of the dogs have been x-rayed for hip- or elbow dysplasia.
60% av the dogs and 90% of the bitches fulfills the breedstandard for hight
40% of the dogs and 60% of the bitches fulfills the breedstandard for weight
Dogs witch are heavier than breedstandard, more often have problems with muscles and joints than those fulfilling breedstandard
If someone is interested in the report (in swedish) you can find it HERE

Re: Swedish health survey
I don't have much working knowledge of whether or not that could be applied accross borders. I know mine doesn't have any issues, but I am not all that sure about whether or not it can be extrapolated out to all dogs. Seems like a rather small sample to me.
