Dry Food
I've looked through other posts but never seen any mention of Harringtons? Any one using it?.

I'm changing my lots food as they seem to be having a farting competition , it does say on Harrintons bag that it reduces flatulent odors

Re: Dry Food
We picked up a small bag in Morrisons the other day to tide us over until Violets regular food gets here (I'm obsessed with panicking over the idea of not having any dog food in!). Violet has gone from a super-stink-machine to odourless! Now I'm not even sure whether to keep using her old food or just stick with this one - my only issue is that it's not a 'puppy' food as such so I don't know if it's any good for her at 6 months.

Re: Dry Food
I have a tub of Harringtons as treats. Dempsey quite likes them, but they're not his 'food'!
I think I remember someone saying that they started off good, but then changed their ingredients.

Re: Dry Food
It seems to work out cheaper than some others with similar ingredients, think i will try it as it is on offer in Tesco and i can have it delivered from the manufacturers website if it is any good. If it helps with the gassing it would be great!! There is a puppy version on the website i think.

The 'puppy' and 'adult' varieties of food is just a marketing rip off, so don't worry about it, just feed her what suits her regardless whether it's meant to be for pups or not.

Re: Dry Food
She seems happy on the adult dog food - I had read before that the only difference was the size of the biscuits (don't see that being a problem with a gob the size of Violets!), but another place said that the puppy food had more minerals/vitamins etc. I am the sort of person they see coming when it comes to dog food, as I have no idea and just want the best for the dog, so it's good to know that there's no difference between puppy and adult foods!
Also, on the Harringtons packet, it says something like 180-360g of food a day, whilst her old food was 600g a day.

Re: Dry Food
iv mentioned harringtons a few times now looking at it it seems not to bad dry food but rather good for the price about the same price as your other supermarket brands but this seems to me to be the cream of the budget crop
(its the one i get if im panicing about my internet order not arriving)i would think you would be more than ok sticking with it.
and re puppy/adult foods there are differances
they may seem the same ingredance but the adult will have a lower (usable for growth and strong bones)quality protine.
but theres nothing stopping you toping up the food with egg and fish.
i would go on weight when to change to adult food anyway i changed at 8 1/2 months as puppy food only much use untill about 17kg in a staffy pup

Re: Dry Food
As above really. Harringtons is not a high quaility food by any means and the price reflects this but as far as supermarket dog food goes harringtons is defo the best. Actually its the only other food other than JWB that keeps Kaos's stools firm.

TBH there is very little, if any difference in ingredients, like you said maybe different size kibble but that's it.
Regarding amount of food, don't forget with better quality food you feed less, i can't comment on Harringtons, never used it. But it's easier to feed by eye then religiously go by the feeding guidelines

Re: Dry Food
When i start them on Harringtons they will be eating less food by volume, do they not complain about feeling hungry then?

Re: Dry Food
the only diff in volume of food is less water in the kibble if you make sure they got a good supply of fresh water with there meals they wont notice and will be just as filled and full for longer

Re: Dry Food
Harrington IMO was a good food until about 4/5 months ago they changed the composition. The highest ingredient was chicken meat meal before and now they have changed it to cereals/grains, cheeky buggers. Its not a bad food and for a supermarket food its one of the better ones. But dogs cannot digest cereals and grains, its probably the extra gases being produced in an attempt to break down their structure that is causing the smelly farts! Thats why when you compare the faeces of a dog on a raw diet and one of a cereal based dried food there is a huge difference. The amount of faeces left by a dog on raw will be much smaller as they take a lot of the nutrition and very little is waste. Dogs on a cereal based food will leave a lot more and it will be a lot smellier since their body doesn't absord and use it for nutrition.
Hope this helps
