Rash on Belly - Updated 11/11
Yesterday when I returned from my hols and gave RoXy a big fuss, when she turned on her back I noticed she has a sore looking rash on her belly ( it looks like she's been scratching it and I noticed she's dragging her belly on the grass in our yard )
I'm assuming she has had a reaction to something but wondering if anybody has a better idea what it may be, and what I may be able to give her / apply to help it get better before rushing to the vets. She is her normal self other than the rash.
Thanks

It does look like a reaction to something. Sudocrem & Piriton would probably help.
If it hasn't gone in a couple of days, give the vet a ring.

Lisa I got Winston some PAW sensitive calming gel..it helps calm and cool sensitive skin and paws....contains chamomile, aloe and pro vitamin B....it is a clear gel you just rub in and leave.. his tummy gets really pink and hot..not sure if it might help RoXy.
For prickly rashes etc I wash him in pinetarsol ..
Hope she is abit better tomorrow..big cuddle for her XX

Ok......i've been to the chemist and mentioned the piriton and sudocrem. Sudocrem=No probs , Piriton she had to look up on the computer and she suggested "Polaramine" ( apparently some vets prescribe this and it has very similar ingredient to piriton )
So, now my question is......what dose would I give to RoXy ( she weighs about 21kg ) How often and for how long would I use it for?
[ on packaging - each tablet contains: dexchlorphenramine maleate 2mg ]
Thanks in advance

the vet on 6PR was talking about polaramine last week!! How is that for a coincidence!!..
he said it is safe for dogs to take as long as they need it daily.. he said they could take one 2 mg tablet twice a day if needed for an average sized dog.

I gave her the Polaramine tablet and applied Sudocrem.........and I am happy to report that it looks like it's improving. I will keep a close eye on her though just incase it flares up again.

Well, RoXy is still scratching and dragging herself along the grass and her rash is looking very sore.
I managed to get her into the vets this arvo and she was given an injection to help with the inflamation......tablets, and cream so hopefully this will help to ease the pain and itch. Poor baby. She seems to think it's an allergy due to spring being in the air.
The vet wants to see her again in a week to check how she is going, so I will keep you all posted

Poor Roxy. Dempsey says "Get well soon". Well, actually he sort of sniffed the keyboard & sneezed, but I'm sure that's what he meant!

My boy boss has the same thing under his armpits and its getting rather bad :/ it has started to scab where he has scratched too hard. Its spring here in NZ and i thought it might of been a reaction.
What do you recommend?
Straight to the vet or try out the suggestions above?
He is happy, but looks so sore!

Try the above suggestion first. If it doesn't improve or gets worse it may be a trip to the vet. Monte had the same thing a few months ago. Cleared pretty fast and hash't returned.

If the above methods don't seem to do the trick, I would take him to the vets. As soon as my RoXy started on the medication from the vets she improved HEAPS.
Good luck, and I hope he feels better soon. It's not much fun for them

Re: Rash on Belly - Updated 11/11
Well, just an update on how RoXys rash is doin'
We went back to the vets this morning for a follow-up visit. He is happy with how things are going. Cutting the tablets down to just 1/2 tab a day now instead of 1, and using the cream for a few more days because he said it was still a tiny bit dry looking. Overall he is happy with how she's doing and I just need to keep an eye on her and if it starts to get worse again, then start up the treatments again.
He did say that Staffys can be prone to allergies.
RoXy is much happier now she's not itchy and says "woof-ruff-rrrrr-woof" to everybody for your thoughts
