staffy x pitbull??? advice please
I need some advice please....
My wife took my dog to see a vet today at the rspca as hes got a rash and the vet said he looks crossed with either a bully or a pitbull but more pitbull because of his long legs and something else but have forgotten, my regular vets i take milo to have never said anything like this, i spoke to the bloke i got him from and he said milos parents are both full staff his mum short legged and dad long legged.
Should i be worried from what this 1 vet said? She said he wouldnt get taken of me and a big reason for this is because hes been neutered.
What would you suggest should i not worry?
I really dont want to be out and have him taken off me because of some vet sayin he looks like a staffy x pitbull .

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
Is your dog papered? Also, I would think that a taller 9 month old could just be in the gangly stage and it could be hard to tell the difference. Since this is not your regular vet, I'd raise the issue with your regular vet and see what they say - informing them that both parents are full staffy. I don't know too much about your bsl over there as we don't have it here (yet). I'm sure if you don't say he is a type and he has a great personality, you are going to be fine. Milo looks really nice to me. Someone probably will be along shortly to bring more clarity to the issue.

Wouldn't be concerned in the slightest. Mine is classed as a type, she is also leggy and very lean, but she is very well trained and very sociable. As long as Milo is trained also I wouldn't be worried at all. You just have a cross, if he is a cross at all, he is still growing remember Xx

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
i would just leave it now you dont ask vets or you could find yourself in trouble. pits or type ( that mean any crossbreed that is similer to pits) are banned in the uk.
Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
Mine's classed as type too but I don't worry, he's a good boy and extremely sociable with people and other dogs, no need for anyone to look twice. As long as you train Milo well (who is gorgeous by the way) you'll be fine.

What everyone else says, really.
He looks a lovely lad, so forget what the vet says (what do they know about it anyway?) and enjoy him.
The avatar looks great - any more pics you can post?

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
tbh he could be crossed with anything, or nothing after coming to this board it has become apparent how much the race does differentiate. I wouldn't worry he seems like a sweet boy.

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
You can never say a dog is 100% staff unless it has papers and can be traced back through generations (and even then sometimes its doubtful!). You dogs parents and grandparents and great grandparents could all be staffords and then about 5 generations back they could have a labrador anscestor. This rogue gene could contribute to the longer legs, you cannot tell a dogs breed merely by looking at it and guessing, especially a gangly 9 month old pup.
That vet was just being picky and throwing around breed specific jargon they probably don't have a clue about! I wouldn't say anything to anyone about their concerns theres no point in encouraging people to ask questions! Enjoy him and keep him happy, friendly and safe and I'm sure he will be a great family friend for many years to come.
Steve - There is only one purebred staffordshire bull terrier but the staffy type dogs which so many are now used to do come in many shapes and sizes. Ah I think we need to agree to disagreee surrounding type, staffys and crosses. But you have to remember when people have a 'lon-legged staffy' they have a staff with long legs and thats just the way they describe it. Same as in America people will say 'English staffordshire bull terrier' as there is already a US version of the breed and they want to avoid confusion! They are not getting at you personally, neither are they saying there is more than one breed of staff, but there will always be different types.

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
we are an information forum so when we see mistakes we have to put them right, it may be a cross breed but it's not a long leggy staffy because you allow it, then will confuse people. if someone searches on the internet staffy x pitbull this topic will be the first to pop up
like that stat that been flying around facebook about staffy attacks on people
american staffordshire terrier 10
english staffordshire bull terrier 102
staffordshire bull terrier 1
when these type names pop up we have to make sure they know there is no other type.

Re: staffy x pitbull??? advice please
I understand where your coming from Steve and it is good to point out the facts and let people know the proper names and descriptions of breeds. But, the point I am trying to make is within society these are the types and names people are assigning to different shaped staffs.
Lots of people use these nicknames if you like and understand them to apply to a certain look of stafford, its like slang. The reason I am making a point about it is not because they are correct, you are right in what you say, but because thats what people understand. These subcatagories of staff are widely used and just make it easier for people to differentiate between types. In my eyes there are registered staffs and unregistered ones nothing else! I am just saying I hear this terminology all the time and I know what they mean, so does everyone else and thats all it is, people are not saying that there is a breed called a 'long-legged staffy' they are just saying they have an unregistered stafford with long legs!
Feel like I'm going round in circles and not managing to put across what I mean!!
