Inspired by another thread...

But DON'T reassure dogs (cuddles etc) when there are fireworks. It just makes them think there actually IS something to be frightened about. Just carry on your evening as normal as possible. No fuss

yes the worse thing you can do is to comfort your dog if he is scared of anything.. it is reassuring the dog that yes it is okay to be scared..

It is really hard but you have to ignore it ( wish I had known all this 12 years ago..Jethro was a nervous wreck ( and so was I !! ) but we won't make the same mistake with Winston that's for sure!! )

Sometimes easier said than done they were all going off as I was driving home about 6.30pm last night (luckily just the last half mile) Ledger is harnessed to a fixed seat belt on the back seat and was going crazy. Luckily it was just as I parked up but he managed to stretch a paw forward and unlatch my seatbelt!!!

Today we had big thunder and lightning and wind and rain. Vlad has a big under cover area outside as well as a kennel. He stood under the pergola and watched the storm with great interest, went out and had a pee, then went into his kennel (which is under the pergola! I am very proud of him. He is outside during the day when we're at work and we keep the routine when we are home, except we go out and play with him... but he stays outside. I was waiting for him to come to the door and bark to be let in, but he was happy outside. The storm was quite big with heavy rain, and I was watching to see what he'd do from a window, but he was so good! He needs to feel safe in his under cover areas while we're at work, and we are happy that he doesn't seem to care at all! Hopefully, he behaves the same if there are any fireworks.
