Is it Jealousy? Empty Is it Jealousy?

After seeking 'permission' from the Vets, Chloe and my mother in law's dog (Yorkshire terrier, 16 months old) met each other for the first times this week.

1st meet (at mother in laws) - Chloe, was very playful and Billy didn't want to know - he was very quiet and kept jumping behind mother in law on couch. Chloe couldn't reach up there so she just kept trying until we left.

2nd meet (my house) - Again, chloe wanted to just play but this time Billy was really going for her - he showed his teeth, was growling and generally didn't want Chloe anywhere near him.

Chloe didn't seem to be too bothered, except when she was nipped she lay on the floor for a couple of seconds.

Does anyone have any tips/ideas on what we should/shouldn't be doing?

Normally Billy is so good when out and about and meeting other dogs.

When they meet it should be on neutral territory and just walk them together on a lead after a while let them off to play

when their comfy together they can meet at each others house

Maybe we were trying a little too soon then. Like I say Chloe just wants to play and Billy, who is a lovely dog normally, just wasn't happy. Think we'll leave it until we can go out to the park. Do you think it could have a lasting effect on Billy (mil's dog)?

Neutral territory and going for walks first is the best idea. After awhile you can go to the homes.
