Aggressive jealousy???
Hi again.
Another question about Debo. He's 9,5mths and he loves all the dogs but...Yesterday we were on the walk with DEbo,we met another staffy,4mths,girl. Both dogs greet each others fine, waggling tails until my OH tried to stroke the other puppy. Debo growl,we pulled him away and walked out. Is it possible that he was jealous and aggressive? If that's the case what can I do to change it? Please help.

Re: Aggressive jealousy???
yes possibly if he has been used to your affection then seeing you petting another dog could have that effect

Re: Aggressive jealousy???
Suki has this issue as well. She will run over to stop me from petting any dog she views as a potential playmate. She will than iniate rough play with the dog I was petting. If I pet an older dog or one too small to play with she is fine. She isn't aggressive about it so we don't see it as an issue.
Other than keeping him on a lead and getting him used to seeing the behaviour I'm not sure how else to fix it.

He was on the lead, but the thing I noticed, when they were greeting, the female puppy wasn't sure of Debo, tail tagged in,lower body. I've noticed that when Debo notices that dog is smaller or younger he will try dominate it. I always stop the interaction and move him away.

Re: Aggressive jealousy???
Steff is 5.5 months now and today we encountered the same issue It was with another Staffie 7month old Charlee, Charlee came and sat on my lap and Steff went her teeth showing hackles up But up until that point they were playing happily together and played again after Charlee moved away from me..

Re: Aggressive jealousy???
This makes me laugh.- staffies are so cute, its as though they want you all to themselves and don't want you to touch another dog.. Phoebe is exactly the same, if a dog comes up to.me or my other half, she jumps inbetween us ... Bless them
.on the otherness hopefully it never gets out of hand.

Re: Aggressive jealousy???
Dogs will usually now when they are meeting a dog that is younger than them and act appropriately, be more relaxed and tolerant with the younger dog. I have noticed this with Rocky, he will be very tolerant of puppys but not necessarily so with older dogs.
