I might be wrong but is'nt american staffordshire bull terrier just another name for pitbull terriers?...I went on pets 4 homes and there's 14 pups for sale under that title in the staffy section. If they are pit pups the breeders certainly are'nt shy of getting caught! Have a look and reply guys

The breed is you are referring to is the American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff). There is no such breed as the "american staffordshire bull terrier." The AmStaff is the AKC breed most closely related to the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT/Pit Bull), which is recognized by the UKC and the ADBA, but not the AKC. The two breeds are so closely related that many dogs are dual registered as AmStaffs in the AKC and APBTs in the UKC. So, yes, an AmStaff is considered a Pit Bull by most, even breed fanciers.

I personally don't think they're the same, am staffs are a little smaller than pit bulls i think their basically the same family. its like Mini staffs and standard staffs. Same dog but just SLIGHTLY different sizes thus different dogs.

I think the fact that they can be dual registered as AmStaffs in the AKC and APBTs in the UKC shows that they have more similarities than differences.

I have a very hard time telling the difference in size with most AmStaff and APBT I know (my oppinion would fall on the side of being so similar that it makes little difference). I agree that many people don't agree (how's that for a "california" answer?). The only place I put my foot down is that I firmly believe the Staffie is not the same as AmStaff or APBT. Overseas, this seems to be more accepted, but where I live most people are ignorant about the difference even when my Staffie is standing right next to a Pit (uh, they kinda look related but...). Nothing against Pits though. I like them as well, just not the same breed as a Staffie.

I agree that, though they are related, Staffords are a very different breed from AmStaffs/APBTs. They are really easy to tell apart if you have even a smidgeon of education on the breeds.

When I read this the first time I thought it was a staffy registered as pit. Skipped right over the "am." I was confused for a moment. I'm all better now though. Laughing

I just think the am staffs head is a little bigger and chunkyer than a pit. but like i said they are very similar but CAN be different...if that makes sense....

much like a german shepard and a shiloh shepard. basically the same dog but different..lol

i think i know what i mean.
