Hate peoples perception

I know you will have all heard this subject ranted about a million times on here and in your own houses but it gets to me everytime.

Basically, me and my partner have been thinking about getting a feline friend for our tabby and white cat (Fable) for a while now and the other day we came across an advert for a gorgeous little oriental cross kitten and so we talked to the woman who owned him and asked wether he was used to dogs, children etc and she said yes. She never once asked what breed our dogs were and i didnt think it was relevant or a problem until yesterday when they came to drop the kitten off as she wanted to see where it was going to live and the first thing she saw when she walked in was our huge canvass on the wall which is a montage of staffies and she imediately asked if we owned staffies (my dogs were in the other room as i didnt want to scare the new arrival) and when we said yes the guy that was with her immediately said that he hated staffies as they were aggressive temperamental things and the woman said she would rather not rehome her kitten to a house with staffies for its own safety ( she had heard about people using cats to bate dogs). So i then fetched a couple of my dogs into the room and placed Fable in front of them, to which they sniffed each other and then the cat jumped on the sofa, curled up and went to sleep (fully intact and still alive) and then she started to relax and after another 15 minutes of being in the room with my dogs they were fussing them and loving them and seemed to really like them and happy to let us have the cat. They then explained that the reason they have a bad view on staffies is because the womans sister has 2 who are aggressive to each other and other dogs but also confessed that it was probably because her sister never walks them and does absolutely nothing with them. So i just said that they should never tar everyone with the same brush.

I think people always assume the worst with staffies unless they have actually met a staffie which has been brought up the right way and is a much loved pet. Once they get this chance to meet staffies to responsible owners their impression of them soon changes. Glad they changed their mind though not only because they allowed you to take the kitten on, but also because this is an extra 2 people who have seen staffies for what they are, loving, affectionate dogs who deserve a chance.

Well done you for changing 2 peoples perception of Staffords There is a pub where we go and its full of oldies, now when we first started going people where really wary of Moo, now they all want to play with her! I also agree with the above comment that if you listen to the media its know suprise people are wary of them but until you meet one you realise they are soft as jelly.

Congrats on the new kitten

We have had Rocky since Christmas last year and I must make a confession. Before we met him our perception of Staffies was quite different. Sadly, we were guilty of listening to media speculation "Savage Killer Dogs" etc.
We could put quite a lot of people straight on this issue. Staffies are nothing like you hear in press stories.
They are such gentle dogs with fantastic personalities who just want to be your friend and have lots of cuddles.
We are trying to get the word about.

The new kitten is great, really playful and although was weary of the dogs when they were all in together at first they are getting on great now. We've called him Onyx

I'll get the other half to take some as the camera on my phone is rubbish lol and i need to take some more of the new puppy but will put some up soon

Excellent photo , Tilly just chases ours and next doors , but on the 1 occasion they didn't run she caught them and then the game ended . She didn't have a clue what to do when they didn't run as this is all she knows , she runs and they run ..lol

haha we found that out when we first got fable as for the first few days he ran away from them then one day he didnt and they didnt have a clue what to do with themselves and he realised they werent scary and now he thinks he is a dog as he eats, sleeps and plays with them

At one point I had 4 cats and ruby, now it's just the 2 cats and her (and in 16 days beau) pilchard loves ruby and meows to get to her.....if only people were like cats and dogs....humans are soooooo judgemental!

Thankyou. Hes always laid with the dogs like that and i agree that being snuggled with a staffy is definately the best place to be (although when all 5 of mine decide they wanna snuggle at once then it gets a little squashed lol)

I truly believe a great Dog is guided that way by their owner, like with anything in life, It's rare to be rewarded for something without putting the hard work in. Although like most like minded staffy lovers herewe not call loving our pet Hard at all..

i had a rant with philip schofield from this morning a while back because they had a woman on slating staffies but had no one on defending them so i tweeted him having a go at him and his reply was that he did not feel like that and it wasnt his opinion on the staffies, so i left it there thinking it was ok,

oh noooo it wasnt over, a couple weeks later they had various dogs on to be rehomed and philip smoothed all of them until the last one come out which he ignored and did not touch or anything, bet you cant guess what kind of dog it was? yes a STAFFIE at this point i tweeted him again and surprise surprise he didnt answer so i can safely say that my views in the man have gone down.
