Basic command training Empty Basic command training

Post by MatthewJP90 Thu Mar 31 2016, 15:55

Hi All..

I'm wanting some advice on basic command training E.G sit, lay down, stay and drop it.

When i got Frankie i was told he has had basic KC training but when hes with me and my OH he looks at us as though hes ignoring us and will only sit if he thinks he's getting a treat. He refuses to lay down hes goot at dropping things and will only stay after about 7 or 8 times of telling him to stay.

So we've decided to go back to basics with him. How long should we be spending each day with command training? And is it better to try ans master one before moving on to the next?

Thanks in Advance for any help Smile

Hi from me and Axl Big Grin If I were you I'd take him to a dog training class which will help you teach frankie the basics and also is good for little Frankie as he can socialise Smile. Make sure you check out a few before you settle on one, good ones will let you sit in and see how they do things before deciding whether to take Frankie along and you can pick the one you like best.

hiya from me and mia. training sessions should be kept to a minimum of 10 mins you would benefit from puppy classes also be consistent and everyone in the houseehold should do the same so the dog doesn't get a mixed message .

Agree with the answers above. You can mix up the training as long as you don't do two things that are very similar straight after each other which could lead to confusion.

Little and often with regards to how much training. What you don't want to do is make it tiresome and he loses interest.

Loads of lovely training videos here:

I absolutely agree with the idea of taking him to training classes if you can, provided you have a good, positive method trainer. They're great for socialisation as well as training.
