Aw no! What specifically are you worried about Mark? It's a very routine op and she's sure to appreciate all of the extra snugs and yummy chicken after Smile Bug has had 4 surgeries now and I've worried every time, but the vets will keep you updated if you ask them to, and it'll be over before you all know it. Bug thought she was back to normal the day after all of her ops! The hardest part was reduced exercise. Have a chat with the nurses, I'm sure they'll ease any concerns Smile

I dreaded taking Katy for spaying & felt awful leaving her there Sad But as you've said its for the best for them. Katy was really pleased to see us & was a bit groggy when we got her home but soon wolfed down her yummy chicken & rice. The next day she was back to her normal self like Bug wanting to play Surprised Just try & keep her as calm as you can with gentle exercise & try quiet games like find the treats. Oh & lots of cuddles & kisses Smile  Just a bit worried! 3198918699 to Beau she'll be fine

As the vets are aware of her stress, I'm sure they'll do everything they can to help her, and not keep her waiting. I know it's worrying but it'll all be over very soon and she'll be back to her normal self before you know it. As Rachel says, the hardest part is trying to keep them quiet afterwards as they forget all about it in a day or two.

Beau will be fine mark i was the same when mia got spayed i phoned every half hour to check she was ok, i would do as rachel suggested and speak to the nurse or perhaps the vet himself. Perhaps someone could sit in the back of the car when she goes to vets. She will be fine wishing beau luck for her op get well soon beau x

She will be fine, I was a nervous wreck when Misty went in. I cried in the vets and I don't do crying. When we could collect her at three she was very groggy and not herself which was utterly horrible however at two am the next morning she was jumping on us and back to her crazy lovely little self. She was fantastic with her stitches, didn't bother with them once. Just think about how lovely it will be never have another season again! No more house arrest or silly o'clock walks for when she is in season. The pros definitely outweigh any stress you will have today. Plus she will never have a pryometra which my girl was suspected of having. Our vets were so good when I explained my worry of her waking up in a cage as she spent a lot of her young life confined to one. I really think the vets will take into account any issues or concerns you will have. Beau will be fine and you will be so happy you have had her done. X

Glad she's home with you. Don't worry about the crying, coming round from anesthetic can be very confusing and some animals do get a bit upset but it doesn't last long.

They do seem to get used to it as long as you leave it on, Mark. We made the mistake with a dog ages ago of taking it off and he struggled to get used to it until someone advised to leave it on, which worked much better. After a day or two, once they've worked out how to manoeuvre themselves, they do seem to do ok.

I opted for the babygrow when Katy was done, but when she came home she wouldn't wee whilst wearing it so I took it off, flood alert in the garden Laughing I didn't put it back on & she never went anywhere near her stiches at all. Glad Beau is home safe & sound Just a bit worried! 3198918699

Glad she's back home with you Mark. She should be fine and free of the anaesthetic by the morning. As for the cone, you can try her with it off and as long as she doesn't nibble or lick the stitches then that's fine but you don't want her making it sore so if she is at it put the cone back on.

Hope Beau is ok now and none the worse for her ordeal. She looks beautiful. Your dog is your family, it's normal to be upset. You can't explain to her what's happening and why she feels poorly. Sounds like a day for snuggling up and watching rubbish TV

If you keep the cone off, do keep an eye on her after a few days as that's when they're more liable to start worrying at the stitches. Wounds itch as they heal.

When we had Mungo neutered we had the same thing, he was so distressed with the cone that we decided to take it off and keep an eye on him. He was so good and we never saw him even look at his stitches. So when I took him to the vet it was a bit of a surprise to find he'd taken them all out except for 1!

We were a bit worried about that but just doesn't seem to be bothered there's a big plaster over her stitches so can't get to them but it's so hard to keep down off the settee and being her normal self we're sleeping down stairs at the moment just can't wait till its all sorted out and back to normal

I've kepts dogs on the lead in the house post op as well.

Have you thought about getting Beau some 'mind' games? They can help tire a dog a bit - thinking can be hard work and help divert the need to do something.
