Spaying Empty Spaying

Post by Nikkiiii Tue Mar 31 2015, 20:22

Hi all Smile

Just wanted some advice! What are people's opinions on spaying? We definitely know we want lola to be done, it's just when is the question? Our vet is saying as she's now 16 weeks she can be done any time now but she just seems so young! I've heard some people say it's best to have a season first?

Thanks for any advice!!x

Personally, I would wait for one season at least. I would say 18 months is a good age.

Please do not have her spayed yet. She needs at least one season first. And then 3 months after the end before she is done.
To be honest, I'd change vets.

I got Ruby from dogs trust at 10 weeks and she's due to be spayed in june when she'll be 6 months. I had no choice and they'll come get her back if I don't take her. Why is it better to wait til after their first season? Is there health benefits or is it to do with their growth?

There are lots of reasons for waiting Angela. From incontinence to real health issues like cancer. ( I'm not saying your pup will get cancer if spayed early)
Try a Google search and you'll be able to make your own decision. The centre where we took Theia for training won't have a dog over 6 months in their day care that isn't spayed. When I questioned this the trainer didn't even agree with their policy.
