Now, I always thought Flo was giving me a cuddle but seems not, maybe she's just a heat stealer

Ian i dont think flo is a heat stealer other wise sash is as well ,may be the article did't take staffords in to consideration i know sash loves a cuddle and she likes me to talk to her

Dogs are funny sometimes. Ill give mia a pat sometimes and reassure her sometimes as she can be unsure

Going back to the Mrs not talking, Lynn lost her voice a few months back and I had to take a few days off work.......

Bo loves a hug. He'll sit and wait then he'll hook his chin over my shoulder and he won't leave go. He does it when I'm sitting down too, he lies on the armrest and pushes his head in the crook of my neck. Then he proceeds to kick me in the ribs as he dreams about running or whatever's going through his head.

very well written and a great article. however i do think it is important to talk to the dogs as well as body language. it gives them an edge on knowing your mood and they have evolved to know what our tone of voice means. yes they dont know what the hell we are saying to them even if they have a good grasp on commands but for an example you all know what a high pitched voice does to a dog...play time just as a calm mellow voice can be comforting. its not the words its the tone they react to and i personally think its an important communication tool. or am i justthe mad nut who sits taling to his dogs all night andc the neighbours laugh at as im stood on the door step at 6 am shouting laska! Marley! wee wees in a high pitched voice to get the lazy little sods moving

I'm also standing on a patch of grass with Axl at 6am saying "Axl go wee wees and you get a biscuit" in a silly high pitch voice and he's like "nah I'm gonna sniff every teeny tiny bit of grass and you're gonna freeze mum hah!"

I have been known to beg him to go before so I can get off to work God knows what the neighbours think! Lol

If Rocky may not like cuddles then why oh why does he jump up onto my lap when I am sitting on the sofa minding my own business with my feet up He will actively seek me out for a cuddle

I always talk to Gordon and he loves a hug. A couple of weeks ago I was getting Gordon to sit by the curb telling him in a in silly voice if he doesn't sit and a big car knocks him over what would mummy do then, that's when a young lad appeared from behind ground swallow me up now

How about "Go vizzle!" It's a word I made up for Bo when he was a puppy so that he didn't over-hear the 'real' word and go there and then on the carpet.

And whilst we're on about embarrassments, the other day Bo was lagging behind sniffing at something and I shouted, "Come on big balls!" (on account of him having, well, big balls). Unfortunately there was a bloke weeding his flower beds a few yards away who looked up in surprise. I don't think he even saw the dog so I dread to think what went through his mind. I bet that's the last time he bends over in his front garden, though.

Both of these made me laugh... Think we've all done something similar

hmm not sure about the hugs bit I have a dog who nudges you if you aren't petting behind his ears - fair enough I don't hug him round his neck but he defiantly snuggles in - his latest one being to come under the duvet in the mornings and tuck himself round my feet!  He also likes his ears scratched, as well as his back legs, I think it depends upon the dog!!
Oh and I taught Dizz to "go pee pee" because I thinks it's funny to watch the OH telling him to in the morning
