Staff pups weight Empty Staff pups weight

Post by Max-Ste's-Dog Thu Sep 30 2010, 11:57

Hi everyone,

As some of you know I got Max this Saturday as a 14 wk old puppy so he coming up to 15 weeks I have just weighed him on some digital scales and he came back as 8.9/9kg. Is that a good weight for him or is it below or over the average? I have tried searching online but with no luck so thought I would ask people on this forum everyone seems nice and friendly. Hope to hear from someone soon.

your dogs weight is nearly one and a half stone, this weight is above average for a pup coming onto 4 mths old, but not too much of a worry,

just cut down on fatty foods and plenty of exercise aswell, and make sure your dog is wormed regularly, the normal weight of a full grown staffy is 28 to 38 pounds while the weight of bitches runs at about 4 pounds less

To be honest with u i wouldnt worry about his weight at all, staffs come in so many different shapes and sizes now a days weight is not really a great guide, its his body condition u should be looking at. He should have nice shiney coat and a nice tuck up. You should be able to feel his ribs easily but not see them. :-) My kaos is 17 weeks now and was weighed at 15 weeks and 9.5 ish kg which is above the 'ideal' weight but then again he is in gorgeous body condition so i am perfectly happy! He will be generally a bigger dog than my Ty who is 1 today and was weighed a few weeks ago at 18ish kg x

Agree with everything said - I think too much emphasis is placed on weight & not enough on individual body type & condition. If your pup's lively & happy with a shiny coat he's ok. I like to be able to feel my dog's ribs, but not see them. I know some people disagree & want to be able to see at least the last 2 ribs, but I think that's just a matter of personal choice.

i would disagree with bigwazza and say that there IS something wrong with pedigree....its crap food lol. If ur looking to improve your dogs condition then the first thing to do is not give him pedigree, iams, bakers anything u can buy in a supermarket and is heavily advertised really!
A list of high quaility foods are:
Burns
wainwrights
james wellbeloved
arden grange
fish4dogs
Joe and jacks
natural dog food company
There are many more as well......most u can get in a pet shop or pets at home or online!
xx

blaze66 i was trying to put it nicely as we dont want to be given bad advertising to brands as it is only going to cause us more trouble than it worth that is why i said there vet would give them better advise as i knew they would never tell them to keep there pup on that product i think we need to study the furum rules so we dont go into these gray areas as it hard not to do .steve has just getting this site back to were it belongs the best staffy forum on the net.and we dont want to kill it off i totaly agree we should be able to give these appinions on products we know are not very good but i think we have to stop slagging brands untill we know were we stand .

Woah i didnt mean to cause a fuss lol I was just wondering if my dog was a decent weight anyway just got back from the vets and he weights 9.4kg and the vet said this is a healthly weight and with his diet I just went by what his breeder said he fed him I mean he looks nice so I'm not gonna change his diet the pedigree doesnt cost a arm and leg to feed him anyway. ha ha there is no fuss if the diet suits you go will it but you might find your not getting the best results in the future. you get out what you put into your pup a good start gives less problems in the future.cost should not realy come in to it as there first year or so sets them for life, so investment now is the best money you can spend, so a fuss no, pashinite staffy owners yes you will find plenty on this nice board

everyone is free to there opinion but its becoming clear that we need to be careful about bad mouthing brands as there are eyes everywhere but no one can stop you from saying in your appinion if you think a product is bad

saying in your appinion that something is bad
and saying something is bad
are two differant thing its all in the wording

it was nothing personal blaze666 Big Grin

In my opinion an awful lot of the commercial dog foods are rubbish. I don't use them & haven't for years. The only time I've used them was when we've gone camping & I can't refrigerate raw food!

Very good point. At his age he shouldn't be having a lot of excercise, you'll damage his growth plates & tendons. He'll get most of the excercise he needs from playing with you & in the garden.

Laughing I know the feeling! Dempsey has just come back from his walk & has done a 'bully run' right round the house (you'd think he hadn't been out for an hour!). He has rearranged the furniture, pictures on the walls, flattened the washing pile, kicked up several rugs, bashed into my legs 3 or 4 times and generally caused mayhem. I've just been round straighteneing everything out & just seen him on the armchair, fast asleep in a little patch of sunlight! Aaaaahhh!
