I would keep it clean and keep an eye on it if it's not unduly bothering her. If, however, you are worried about it, I would go back to the vet for a professional opinion. When you ring up, explain what you've found and your concern that it may be a post-op condition, they should look at it for free (I think).

I wonder if its an in growing hair around the scar line. Keep an eye on it and show the vet on the next visit if there is no change. Obviously call the vet if it gets worse.

Strange - if it was me personally I would pop her back to the vets as mentioned if its part of the spay then the treatment should be free.

Do let us know what it is I am rather intrigued xXx

Allergic to the stitches seemingly.Injection and anti-biotics prescribed.Another bill.Wish I'd gone to the PDSH now as I am eligible but it's a 35 mile round trip. They're worth it though Smile

So she's allergic to the stitches THEY put in and you have to pay for treatment? Seems to me that it's post-op care, I'd like to think I would have at least queried it.

I think it's a liberty charging you for that and never heard in my life of stitches-allergy?? Makes me wonder what were they using.

Quite common according to what I can glean from the net. It's a seroma they think,a reaction to the stitches.Pictures online look the same as the one I took.To be fair no-one knows what they're allergic to beforehand and there are quite a selection of threads they can pick from.
Just one of those things. At least next weeks checkup is included so hopefully it will clear up.

The blister has burst and now there's a thread poking out, about 10 mm long,Seems quite attached,I'm not going to tug on it too much. She doesn't go back for the follow on checkup until next tuesday, will she be ok?I'm tempted to ring them again in the morning.

That thread is stitching they didn't remove properly. She needs to go back because if its the inside stitches and it catches on something it'll tear open the inner wound.
This will be free (make you tell them this) this is their mistake and so was the needing for antibiotic and last check up, if post op was done correctly this wouldn't of happened.

Good and make sure they know - not so great for her, are they going to have to put her back under?

As a nurse, we see reactions to sutures like this regularly in people. The body sees them as a foreign body and it's response is to "get them out!". They are dissolving stitches usually, but they can take 6 weeks or so to fully go. The knot inside can also undo itself and start to poke through the wound. It should however be covered in the aftercare, so you shouldn't be paying for consultations (tho they prob have to charge for medication).
Hope this clears up soon, it can be very irritating!!

Took her back today.Redness gas gone. They pulled a stitch knot out of the incision about 20 mm and cut it off letting it go back inside. They said it would be fine.I hope so.
