ref puppy

First topic message reminder :

hi guys and gals,looking for some honest advice please,we have been to see a litter of pups who are about 4/5 weeks old,the owner says its the mothers second litter and as the pups have teeth mother is losing interest in them,the owner has started weaning the pups and giving them weatabix,and the owner has said that as the mother is not interested in the pups we could take the pup at 6 weeks,does this seem right,and secondly what would you feed pup on is weatabix ok.

I'm not really understanding the Weetabix?
If you are happy to put the extra time in to look after the little pup then go for it Bane has turned out pretty well we think and we got him early! Having your older dog might help him too! Good luck and keep us updated! Have you thought of reporting this person to the RSPCA?

has anyone got any experience of kong toys,i want to get one to try and entertain the pup but not sure what size to get and what to put in it,any help will be appreciated.

I think Bane has Medium ones and he has had them from about 7 weeks. They are roughly 9cm long. There is a smaller one than that but we thought he would grow out of it too quickly. He has a softer blue puppy one and a black extreme one.
You can put his dinner in it, and maybe some peanut butter across the top to hold it in, or some treats. You can also freeze them with liquid in, so meaty stock with treats in. We make natural yogurt ones or cream cheese ones with bits of apple and chicken in. Banana and peanut butter are also good ones, would be softer for the little guys baby jaws too

Lula has the puppy kong its a large we will most likely get the black one in the future.

When Ronnie was a baby he had a blue kong and I used to soak his dry food in water and mash it up and stuff it in his kong.

Cheese is good. Peanut butter seems to be popular but Ron Dog didnt like it. Tuna/sardines was also a favourite.

A teatowel with a knot in was another favourite to chew on when he was little.

When he got over 6mth we got a red medium kong and I use webox (the one in tubes) I know its rubbish as a dog food but it squishes in kongs brill and a little bit in there does him no harm.

Dont forget to share pics of your little one. Good luck my last 8mth with Ronnie have been so frustrating, bloody hard, sometimes I wondered what the hell I had done but so rewarding wouldnt be without my boy now.

He left his mum at 5wk and I was ready for problems but we was lucky and got nothing more than the usual puppy stuff.

i will take some pics when i pick him up friday and will try and post them friday evening

Any thoughts on a name yet?

thanks mark had a sleepless night he wants attention all the time,i put him in his crate at the side of the bed but he still cried for hours.

Just like beau mate lasted for a week or so have you put a water bottle in the crate and a small ticking clock mate!

no i didnt think of that,i do know his teeth are like needles.

I no yeah our hands use to be like pin cushions hehehe u will get there mate it takes time we've all been there mate but it's worth it

i know mate the one i lost last year i had him at 7 weeks and he was 12 when he went,he loved me that much that if i went outside for a smoke when i went back indoors he was that pleased to see me you would think i had been away for weeks.

There so lovable breed aye they mate couldnt be with out one im out all the time there an canal by me were down there all the time morning and evening can't wait for tbe summer happy times for us all aye mate

i miss the lingo i used to live in tipton and now live in herefordshire if you say things like aye they look at you funny

i know this was going to be hard work but this is seriously hard work,he sleeps for an hour then bites me constantly for about 20 minutes then sleeps again,ive given him a kong,an old slipper,a rolled up tea towel plus other hard toys but he still prefers my hands doesnt matter what i say or do hes facinated with biting my hands.

Alan I had the same so I know what your going through mate believe me it does get better mate I thought it was never going to end all our hands am like pin cushions mate you will get there mate

hes had my hands arms chin lips everything except his toys

but hes still beautiful

We've had the same brand new training shoes the lot mate it will get better mate sharp as well aye they

sharp aye the word mark everytime he has me he draws blood and cause hes white it shows on him so we have to keep wiping him down

Be consistent with him and he will learn, unfortunately this is one of the things that will be harder for you xx
