Ticks!

Post by acidrane13 on Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:18 pm

Chase is all up to date with his flea/tick treatment, but in the last few days ive found 3 ticks on him! 2 died and fell off within 24 hours, but 1 has some how managed to resist the flea and tick treatment.

I don't wanna remove it because i know if you don't do it right it can get infected.

But what do i do? is it a vet situation or is their a product that can sort the problem?

Ive seen a tick remover, but ive never used one and don't know if there any good.

Any advice?

Tick removers are good as long as you follow the instructions. I know that the breeder of my Belgian used to cover the tick in vaseline, including a bit of the surrounding area, leave it for a few minutes & then carefully twist it off (anti clockwise, I think!).

Also, I'm told this works...........

yes the vaseline smothers it and they will pull out...... I would definitely try that

another way is to get some dental floss and tie it tightly, right where the skin and tick meet.. then pull quickly... but you have to be abit careful and have a steady hand to do it properly..

Ive heard the vaseline thing can make the tick salivate and deposit more nastyness than it normally would.

I have no idea why the frontline hasnt killed it?!

hhmm I hadn't heard that about the vaseline...

here in Australia we get some whopping big kangaroo ticks.. I have used vaseline on them with no ill effects...

I would surely think the frontline would kill them though...

Just tryed this...AND IT WORKED! The tick fell off still alive and was trying to crawl around the floor!

Ill keep an eye on where it was for the next couple of days, make sure it looks ok. But um guessin as it came out in one piece it will be fine?
