how do you know if your dog has got ticks, billy keeps licking and biting his back leg, there is a small lump there, just wondered if it was a tick, if not any ideas. He has just been on antibiotics for some lumps that he had, but this is much smaller

Can you see the lump clearly? I always look for the legs!

Moo had one not so long back, it looked like a skin tag, I only realised what it was till about a week later because it was huge with the blood. You can't see anything just its body that swells with the blood. I pulled it out silly me as I left the head in but the nurse just pulled it out for free at the vets Xx

Part the hair & have a look with a magnifying glass - you'll be able to see tiny thin legs if it's a tick.

Might be a bit hard to spot with the black hair.

If it is a tick you can smoother it in vaseline. Because they breathe through their body when they are feeding, if smoothered in vaseline they have to come up for air and so they drop off. You should never pull a tick out yourself though unless you know how to get the head out too. I hate ticks they are evil creatures!

I got one out of Charlie 2 days ago. I didnt know what it was at first cos the ticks I've seen were much bigger. I pulled it out anyway, and yep, it was a tick. I got the head out too. I hate them. My husband literally pulled one out of our cat about half an hour ago. I'm worried now that maybe they're in the grass in our garden cos they both had one within a couple days of each other.
