Post by Steph and Bailey Wed Jul 17 2013, 14:42

Hi staffie lovers, great to find this website as I am crazy about my staff and if it wasn't for his bad table manners I'd marry him lol.

Anyway, my male staff is 7 years old now and we are very close and do most things together (except he cant come to work with me). I love him more than life itself and it has been said to me that I do treat him like my child!! This is probably true to some extent as I can't have children!! I talk to him all the time, give him lots of fuss, walk him, take him swimming you know all normal stuff. The question I am leading up to is that I was thinking of getting another staff puppy to keep him company when I'm not around. To be honest even when I am around he looks kinda bored. He gets on great with my brothers black lab but with other dogs he just walks straight past them like they aren't there. The only time I've seen him be aggressive was toward a adult boxer who tried to take his stick from him and that was only a warning!

He does get possessive over me when other dogs are around as he will try and intercept if I fuss another dog as if he is being left out. I know the psychology of the dog if I had another pup in that I would need to reassure Bailey in that he is still my number one but wouldn't want a blood bath.

Do you think its a good idea for me to have another pup in particular another staff or maybe another less dominant breed or not at all?

Thanks for listening.

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and the zoo Smile xx

Never kept more than one dog at a time. I have considered getting a lurcher to keep Knox company (he fell in love with a lady lurcher a couple of weeks back) but I always have a niggling feeling of "what if he gets jealous...." anywho. That's not to say that you can't keep more than one dog togther, even staffies Smile

I'd say the best way of dealing with it is to introduce him to other dogs. I'd say visiting a kennel or pound that has dogs you may be interested in and seeing if they would set up "play dates" to see how he gets on and then see how he gets on around you and the other dog.

There will be other people here to help advise you better on this though Wink That's just my two pence worth xx

hia from me and sasha Smile
there are alot of members on here that have two or more staffys that get on fine together so it can work, most would advise you to get a female as you have a male,do some research first as you will have double the trouble by getting another Laughing

Hi and welcome from me and Daisy Big Grin

I only have Daisy but growing up we usually had 2 or more dogs and never had any problems but that is the extent of my experience I'm afraid, also we never introduced a puppy as they were all rescues. In fact maybe that is something you could consider, then they will get the chance to meet first?

Hi & welcome to the forum Newbie and needing advice 3198918699
If your thinking of getting another, getting a staffy should be fine but you will be miles better off if you look for a female. There is only 1 thing that is vital and thats to post loads of pics on here so we can have our puppy fix
