Pulling! Empty Pulling!

Post by Guest Wed Jan 23 2013, 20:40

It's getting out of hand. He walks well, but if he sees a dog or something he wants to smell, he's almost dragging me. That plus the ice is making walking Loki really difficult. It's less enjoyable and then it feels like it's less enjoyable for him too, and then I feel guilty. I was thinking about getting that non-pull harness, but I don't see that it'd work. Worth a try, but if that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to do. He calms down slightly about halfway through the walk, but it's getting annoying. Any tips on how to combat it, or is my best bet to try the harness and see if it makes a difference?

I got the non pull harness for mia and my dobbie as i had heard good reports about it. It works great for my dobbie but not so good with Mia. So i think it depends on the dog whether it works or not. Probably worth a try Smile

Certainly worth a try. The front fastening is supposed to make the dog use its own strength against itself - if that makes sense. So, when they try to pull, they just turn themselves towards you.

I need to say it works perfect on Debo. And he is puller. He thinks we will get faster if he pulls and I'm slowly walker. This is what Debo has.

I think you should give it a try and if it doesn't work return to the shop.

We use this for Suki and it has worked wonders espically since the ground has been very icy lately

Dogs are cunning and very inteligent. Marley worked out the front fastening harness in the shop trying it on and crab walked with it. Sporn anti pull lasted two days before he didnt give a chuff. Only things that have worked for me are julius k9 where he can pull to his hearts content or a halti head harness which he walks great on. Ive resigned to the fact ill never remove the pulling instinct out of my two so going with the flow and buying a scooter to wearthem out.

Well my boy use to pull a lot when I first got him specially if he seen another dog, what I did was ''take control'' what I mean is always walk with my boy either by my side or behind me, never in front even if he's not pulling, that way he knows I'm the one in charge of where he walks (well at least it worked for me Laughing) whenever he tries to go in front I give a little pull and say ''Back'' after a while he picked up what I meant and started walking behind or next to me all the time without ever pulling, when he sees a dog all he does is stare at him but keeps on walking Laughing

To be honest I don't know how the non-pull harness would work, but then again I never tried it but I've also noticed my boy use to pull less (when he use to pull) every time he was on his harness I don't know why but it seemed like he didn't pull as much (I had a normal harness).

In my opinion a harness will allow a dog to pull more comfortably...so what will they do? Pull...
Great if you can train it out of them but i could put barbed wire around marleys neck and hed still pull like a train which is why i have had to compromise. He hates his head collar but that because he has to walk nice, clip lead to his harness and hes like a nutball. Good thing is im loosing weight and he has great muscle tone from pulling.

Good idea Laughing Loki's pulling is only when he's interested in something...if the scenery is boring he actually walks fine, the little weirdo.

I know, he was settling down for the night so was sleepy Big Grin

Thanks everyone, I'll give the harness a go anyway. No harm done if it doesn't work.
