Hi all, my Lily is a terrible puller she evens pulls a wee bit on a halti! She has always pulled since she was a pup, she is a big stafford as she is 24kg, she is blue brindle so she has the extra bulk the blue gene can do. Lola is a natural on the lead and only pulls if they are walking together. All my other dogs have just walked naturally with no training. What should I do? Why is she like this? I would love her to walk on a normal collar as people sometimes think she is vicious cos they think the halti is a muzzle. Straight Face

When out for a walk and Lily starts to pull try changing direction and walk the other way each times she does it. This could mean that you dont get very far as in walking distance but it usually does the trick. Persistance pays.

It can take quite a few repetitions, but should eventually work! Big Grin

P.S. The blue gene doesn't give extra bulk - that's just what she's inherited from her parents!

It takes some time but the turning around method does work.

Billy used to pull but by turning and stopping he is fine now, you could try a head halti

I know you said you've tried a halti, but have you tried the gently leader halti? My boy Charlie is huge, and hideously strong. When he was pulling, it felt like my arms were going to be ripped out of their sockets. I tried the gentle leader a few months ago and have been using it ever since. Its turned our walks from being a dreaded chore into a pleasure again. Definitely worth giving it a go if yet haven't tried it already.

what if you walk the other direction and she doesn't follow, or just sits/stops?

Some dogs will just walk at the side of you naturaly others like mine can be a bit of a pain in the backside.
With me the training aids like the Halti are useful. The techniques like turning away once they walk ahead or stopping and getting them to heal before continuing are great advice.
For me the dogs energy is very important. I never thought it was that important and people don't until they get a dog that will take a mile if you give them an inch. For me I won't clip on the leash until Blue is calm (head down, tail still etc)
The other part which im struggling to master is the timing of any correction. Get this right and the lightest of tugs will work.
Think I've managed it about twice in the last 12 months Laughing

Good to hear! Keep at it. Mine still pull a bit with a gentle leader but it is worth working on it.
