Rubbing eyes Empty Rubbing eyes

Post by goldie87 Fri Dec 14 2012, 22:26

Does anyone else's Staff randomly start rubbing their eyes? Zeus does this mainly while hes sleeping, he'll get up and rub his eyes with his paws for a few minutes then go back to sleep..

He also scratches his eyes with his paw randomly throughout the day, so much that hes took a bit of skin off under his eye

Its very cute, but keep a watch on it if he has split the skin under the eye, it must be very sensitive Xx

Tank does this too, he's scratched around his eyes using his super sharp dew claw, so he's looking a bit baldy. Luckily he's not sore tho, he tends to do it when he's half asleep. I try to cover his face when he does it !

Check to see he hasn't got any ingrowing eyelashes which can aggravate the eyeball.

Yes, and make sure there's no redness in the eye itself. If it looks sore, you can try placing a used, cooled tea bag over the eye for a few seconds 2 or 3 times a day - it helps to soothe tired eyes.

Of course, if there's redness & it doesn't go in about 24 - 48 hours, then see a vet.

Hi Caryll, there is a red line that has been on zeus's eyeball, stretching from the back to his actual pupil, I didn't think much of it, I thought it might be just because hes tired but i'll keep an eye on it. If it doesnt go away, what could it be?

Sounds like a burst blood vessel. Not a problem as long as it isn't causing any irritation.

I'm a wimp when it comes to eyes, though. The slightest eye problem & I'm at the vets! Blushing

Not normally - if it's just one blood vessel they tend to heal up really quickly. If it's been there for a while I'd be inclined to get it checked out. You might need some eye drops.

Yes, it does, surprisingly enough! Big Grin There's something in black tea that has a soothing & cooling effect. Try it yourself, next time you have tired eyes. It really soothes!
