Botty Rubbing

Just got a 3 year old staff called Jess.She does the most peculiar thing.It look like she is sat down then she will drag herself forward like she is scratching her * on the floor..
Why does she do this?

She's either got an itch or her anal glands need emptying - very messy & smelly, so get the vet to do it!

or like kaos shes just likes the feel......haha! Kaos drives me nuts doing it....hes wormed fleaed and has had his anal glands done he justs loves the feel of my rug on his bum lol

Is it expensive to get done.?..I have to take her to the vets anyway this week so will mention it then.Personally i thought it might of been fleas..shows hw much i know

The nurse at my last vet would do it for free, they'll do it in the check up I would have thought its very simple to do, you can do it yourself but as Crayll said, its rather gross

Anal gland squezzing isn't expensive but it is a bit gross

Watched some videos of it on youtube and learnt best not to stand behind the dog when you are doing it

I watched some vids on youtube and tbh i don't think i have the stomach for it

not for the feint of heart or those with a sensitive nose! Mine do it sometimes outside if they have a "hanging chad." The glands are just foul. The bum boogy is pretty good indicator they are ready to go. Kaos, you leave me speachless!

quick update
Took Jess to the vets and got her anal glands done but she is still scooting around on her botty.Tthe problem is that she is'nt trying to itch her bum she is trying to itch her tush which is getting a bit sore.she has been flead wormed and checked for mites and was ok...any idea's ?
Another dog owner told me to use nappy rash cream,but i would'nt want to use something that makes it worse

You can use sudacrem to ease it, but if its not the glands what does the vet think it is, been going on a long time now Xx

Jess is having blood tests this week so should find out then...i just want to try and ease her itching till Friday.

Ah. I know someone from a GSD forum who has a staffie bitch who does exactly the same, because she seems to enjoy it! If she's getting sore, then try wiping her lady bits with warm salty water then dry them & smear some sudocrem or vaseline on - that should do the trick.

Skibadee does this when shes really excited! We call it bum-shuffling!

Zeus has been doing this since Friday.. I tried putting sudocrem on it.. didnt work.. Ended up taking him to the vets and they told me that his anal glands were full (which they emptied) and also that they were infected.. so they gave him an anti-inflammatory injection and hes on antibiotics for a week!
