We are just venturing up and down our little street. Callie did pretty well with the quick lead corrections I've read about. I brought treats and gave her one after the more major corrections or when she responded to my voice and got back on track.
..any ideas how I could be doing this better? We do start a puppy class this weekend.

Oh, and of course she tried to eat about a million bits of gravel *sigh*

No real tips, just takes time I think, I remember our first few weeks of walks, literally stopping every 2 steps to sniff something, constantly zig zagging around and tripping us up, and not even moving if a drop of rain was falling!!

A collar is easier to make corrections with, just be gentle on their little necks, and apparently it breaks their concentration quicker if you give a tug to the side rather than front or behind!

Thanks Karen. That's what I have, just her little nylon collar. I do see what you mean about the quick tug and release to the side. If she wants to drag to the front I just stop and wait til she gives up, I'm not going to win that one but neither is she Smile

I've found that the best way to lead train is every time the dogs pulls just turn around & walk the other way, giving a little tug on the lead and a "heel" at the same time. As soon as the dog catches up with you, turn around & go the way you were going to start with.

It'll take ages to get anywhere, but it works! Big Grin

I use the turn around method as well. It takes a bit of patience but it's worth it
