To start with, I'd feed him what the rescue centre has been feeding. Any sudden change will upset his stomach & he'll have enough to cope with (what with a new home & new rules etc) without that as well!

It reallt depends on how you want to feed. Will you be giving him dry complete food (kibble)? Or tinned food, or even raw meaty bones?

One thing that tends to put weight on a dog is green tripe, which you can get from most of the larger pet stores, but not everybody likes it cause of the smell!

By all means take him to your vet to get him registered & checked over - it's always nice to know they have a clean bill of health.

P.S. He looks a real sweetie!

He does look skinny doesnt he first thing i would do is feed him up and if he doesnt gain weight i would take him to vets.Could he be crossed with a wippet have they actually told you what he is crossed with.Maybe thats why he is thin.

I wouldn't change the diet at first. Talk with your vet and se what they think and then make the change gradually. Good luck he look s like a good boy.

Fantastic for giving him a loving home thumbs up I'm sure when he is in a stable home environment he will fill out a bit, but depending on what "mix" he is, it may just be the way he is.
At the end of the day, if he is healthy and happy and great natured, that is the main thing.

It could be that he is x with a slim dog. Do any changes gradually. Is he microchipped?

He doesnt look too thin, he is slight but that will be down to him not eating too much in kennels and not getting much exercise. You need to give him something high in protein (either a good kibble or a raw diet) and up his exercise and he will bulk out a little and put on some muscle tone. Looking at his build though he does look like hes crossed with some kind of hound so parhaps he will always be slighter than most staffordshires.
