Toilet trained in a week!?!?!
Just wondering if it's possible?
I get Beau on the 8th (as you all know, I've not stopped banging on about it!) and I have the week off, but I'll be back to work on the 18th and that is when he gets my grandad, till he is old enough to be on his own with Ruby all day. And if I can, i would rather he be poohing and weeing outside
I'd like to think I did a good job with Ruby when she was little, I'm quite patient and confident with training, but it seems such a long time since Ruby was a baby. Xxx

Re: Toilet trained in a week!?!?!
In my opinion toilet training isn't so much about "teaching" the puppy anything as about the human(s) learning to pay attention and get the puppy outside in time. (The puppy then gets learns by experience that peeing and pooping is done outside and that the humans will take you there so you can get it done.) So - it's perfectly possible to have a puppy for (less than ) a week and have no accidents, but I don't necessarily think the puppy has learned where to do his or her business in that time frame. Gummi has only had one accident in the house since we got him, but I don't think he actually got the concept until fairly recently. (At least it's only the last few weeks I have noticed he's shown happiness to be taken outside so he could pee, running to get that done first because he had to.)
Using bells by the door and teaching him to ring them to be let out should make the process faster - but I'd still say it's a matter of making sure granddad pays attention.

Yeah its possiable sort of, thing is you will have to make sure your well on top in the week your off. But even then pups still can only go so long and still dont get much warning if you will.
As already said the first few months it more the owner getting into good habits more than training the pup.
Best way to make sure your pup is accident free in the house is to make sure you take him/her out before and after eating or drinking, after playing and every hour roughly. Also keep a keen eye on your dog looking for tell tail signs such as sniffing, circling, tail up, squatting, whatever warning signs you notice your dog gives.
Always give lots of praise for going toilet outside and try to use a command when you take them out to go toilet like go wee wees, go toilet, ect. Never punish your dog for going toilet inside, just try to catch them at it say no pick them up and put them out where they should be going.
You can have them pretty well trained in a week if your off work that week as you can give your attention around the clock nearly, but I would think unless your sticking to the same rules after week 1 your gonna get the odd accident still.

Pretty much as I thought, thanks guys!!
the odd accident isn't a problem, and I'm sure I'll be fine, I've done it once before successfully with Ruby and I don't know why I thought things would be different with Beau x My grandad is fab bless him either way I'll let you all know how things go xx thanks again xx

Re: Toilet trained in a week!?!?!
Staffs are great with the toilet training, I know other dog owners who have problems with their dogs for years, maybe i have just been lucky, I could be wrong but if you take your dog for a walk when they are young and make a fuss of then when they do their stuff outside, they seem to catch on very quickly, never forget your wee plastic bag to lift it, it really annoys me when i see other dog owners just walking off after their dog does their buissness, i have said to a few of them "are you not gonna pick that up" but everyone just looks at you and walks off... i could tell post on here what i say to them when they walk off, but its not very nice !!
