Our first moron incident!
Well it had to happen didn't it?! We have been taking Tinkerbell to pick my daughter up from school in the mornings. Hollie shares a classroom with reception children who stay all day, and nursery children who do 9-11.30. Because of the extra children being dropped off at 9am we don't take Tinkerbell because it is just too hectic there, but we have been taking her to pick Hollie up as a way of socialising her. She has been doing great and this coupled with walking into town some evenings means she is so much better with people, doesn't try and jump on them. Just sits and waits patiently for someone to come and see her whilst waiting for the doors to open and Hollie to appear.
Anyway she wears a halti headcollar when out walking because she pulls on the lead, and with this on apart from the occassional "I am not going any further until you remove this thing from my face", she walks to heel and ignores people and dogs She is doing brilliantly and it has only been days since I asked for advice with her pulling and over friendliness towards everyone she meets.
But it had to be spoilt today but some uneducated lowlife moron! Sorry I am just a bit cross at this. Whilst I was waiting for Hollie to be called, a little boy came to approach the dog. He did the same yesterday and his mother dragged him away saying they were in a rush. Today though my suspicions were confirmed when she told the boy to get away from "that dog, it is obviously nasty". Tinkerbell at this point was still sitting on the floor wagging her tail, but the damage is done no doubt all the other parents now think I am stupidly taking a vicious dog up the school who eats children!
I intend tomorrow to have a word with her and ask her, politely of course , why she thinks she is nasty. I suspect it must be the headcollar, no doubt she like many others thinks it is a form of muzzle. Didn't want to go after her and ask her earlier as I had the dog with me so she propably would have called the police telling them I set my "nasty dog" on her.

Re: Our first moron incident!
when we were at the Chatsworth show agility comp recently, all the cars for the agility comp were parked close to the rings and fairly tightly packed in,
next to us was a car with two staffies in a cage in the back,
both were sat quietly and did not make any fuss when we or anyone else approached them,
until some one with two dogs passed very close to the car and their two dogs barked at the staffies, who promptly answered back in no uncertain way,
at which the owner of the passing dogs said, in a most unpleasant manner "ugh, its some of those staffies" and dragged their dogs away,
so, even though it was her own fault, the staffies got the blame,
bearing in mind that she was one of the competitors in the agility, and should have known better than to let her dogs so near the staffies car in the first place,
she is another one who is biased against staffies, and probably for no reason other than that is the general opinion of staffies, and has never had a problem with staffies herself before,
even the commentator in the agility ring made a dubious remark when Ratty went into the ring, "oh its one of those staffie things"
what a pair of *****
mind you, Ratty disgraced himself in the agility ring by abandoning the course halfway round to go and give a little girl, who was a spectator, a good licking,
there were a few gasps from the crowd at first when he ran over, but this soon turned to laughter when it became apparent what he was doing,

Re: Our first moron incident!
The owners of the garage in my village have always had staffies. Their last boy was from the same breeder as mine (both sadly gone on now). This dog sat outside on the garage forecourt all day throughout all of its life with no problems what so ever. But when it was well in to old age and had lost all of its teeth, the daughter in law used to walk it to the school (just along the road) to pick up her children. That is until one mother complained about the viscious dog at the school gates!
So please do put this Mother right both about our lovely breed and their love of children and the head collar.

Re: Our first moron incident!
I will certainly be doing that, just annoyed now though because it has been a great form of socialisation for her. We are in serious doubts if she has ever been walked by the previous owners, think she was a dog chucked out in the garden all day long. So obviously she doesn't quite know how to act with passing people at all. And not in a nasty way, but that she will drag me over to go and bounce all over them, lick them and want to be made a fuss off. This and her pulling on the lead in general is the only reason why she wears the headcollar. I just really hope that she or some other moron doesn't make a complaint to the school to stop us taking her up there.
My little girl loves it when Tinkerbell picks her up from school, and it saves having to go back to the house and get her as we go for a walk staight from school.
The woman in question lives a few doors down from me so I will certainly bump into her tomorrow and put her straight. And I have been thinking I might just have a quiet word with Hollie's teacher tomorrow and explain the situation and ask if it is ok to continue bringing her up to the school. Don't think it should be a problem, her teacher has seen Tinkerbell and also seen Hollie walking her and knows she isn't in the slightest aggressive.
Hollie's best friend has a 6 month old boxer. He comes to the school every morning (at 9am, because Hollie's friend is an all dayer so we don't see him at pick up time). He doesn't wear a headcollar or harness, he is just allowed to pull away on the lead. No complaints have been made against him, so don't think it is a breed thing more that she wears something over her face which therefore must be a muzzle on a nasty dog.
Thanks, that's her favourite place to lie once the kids are in bed so all my attention on her!
Thankyou, she certainly is a lot better since last time I posted asking for help. We certainly have been lucky with her as she is a fantastic little dog!

I feel for you Dann I think the recent publicity about the change in dog laws in your State and the death of little Ayen has given people the idea that all dogs who resemble pit bulls are vicious and out to kill their children Stoopid woman!

Yeah very sad....I feel for Ayen's family
The new tough laws on pitbulls are fair, responsible owners will have there dog registered with local council and on dangerous dog list. The thing that pisses me off though is some peoples ignorance regarding staffys....particularly with the media. Not long ago there were couple online news articles regarding people being attacked by dogs.....have a guess which breed they choose to use for the picture in those articles

Re: Our first moron incident!
Lol confrontation didn't go well she refused to look at me let alone speak to me....and I didn't even have "the dreaded nasty dog" with me!
So when we go up the school later, I have decided to take Tinkerbell out an hour before and go for a walk then call in to school on the way back to collect Hollie. This means she will be tired and on best behaviour, i.e. no eating children so I will take her up without her "muzzle" on!

Re: Our first moron incident!
Lol, well I walked her on her collar for half hour before calling into the school. We were there too early so she lay on the floor sunbathing!
She was fine, sat or laid patiently waiting for the door to open. Then a lady turned up with a Jack Russel under her arm, Tink tried to pull her way over to see him. And because I refused to let her go over, she barked for a bit.
My daughter was the first called out of school, but didn't come out when called as usual. So the lady who commented yesterday's child came out before her, as did another little boy who's dad was standing next to me. The other little boy ran over to Tinkerbell who was really pleased and sat and licked him. The look on the lady's face was priceless to begin with, she must have been terrified as she held onto her boys hand not letting him over. When she saw Tink licking, not mauling the boy, she let go of her boy's hand but he didn't come over.
I seriously thought she was going to have a heartacttack when she first seen a child running over to that nasty dog! Tinkerbell did me proud though, even off her headcollar!
