advice on my poorly girl
ok so 2 weeks ago daija came home from a walk on the fields with my OH and couldnt open her left eye..within aan hour she couldnt open her right eye either! i was histerical called my vet and got her an out of hours appointment, after looking at her he said she had allergies that had been triggered by something at the fields and prescribed treatment for conjunctivitus..all well and good was pleased it wasnt something really serious! but since then she hasnt been herself, for the past 3 days shes been off her food completely (shes on dry food) has literally had a nibble before cocking her nose up at it and laying down i feed her twice a day and she usually wolfs it down so deffinately not normal...her eyes are slightly better but still not normal (i was told theyd be back to normal after 5 days max!),shes had a runny nose and appears to have a bloated stomach, she was vomitting yesterday, and just seemed lifeless today so i called the out of hours vet again and took her straight down..he had a look at her and just said shes probably got a bug of some sorts and to feed her chicken and rice for next 24 hours! he also said shes got rhinitus(her nose is cracked and slightly hard over the top) he took her temperature which was fine the problem is we were told when we got daija that shed had her jabs but after typing her symptoms into google im not convinced she has, shes booked into the vets on the 30th of this month to have her jabs again just in case but im really worried she may have the distemper virus, can i ask my vet to check for this or would he know if he saw her,im really worried about my girl and just wanna know shes ok

Re: advice on my poorly girl
Did the person you had her off not give you her vet card or anything? a reciete from the vets etc, I would ask the vet to test for distemper as soon as possible.

Re: advice on my poorly girl
so is there some test they can do to rule it out? i explained my worrys but he seemed to have no concern i also told him that i wasnt convinced about the jabs but he just said to book her in for them again to be on the safe side,im sat here feeling like im overreacting but she just aint right i know my own dog, shes been on antibiotics so would be protected now if jabs werent present (So the vet said!) i think im gonna keep an eye on her overnight and if im not happy its back to the vets tommorrow!!
the breeder said shed had her jabs but couldnt find the paperwork(he was havin a kitchen fitted when we arrived the place was a mess!) i cant understand why he would lie cos i would have paid for her to have them if not but theres that small doubt in my mind because of how she is

Re: advice on my poorly girl
Your vet would be very aware of the symptoms for distemper, so I'd go by what he says - that it isn't. One of the signs of distempa is fever, which she doesn't have.
It could well be just a mild viral upset which will go in its own time. Just try to tempt her with some nice tasty food & keep her out of draughts etc. If she seems to be becoming a little worse, then take her back to the vets; otherwise just watch her & keep her comfortable (ie best place on the bed/couch; best chicken breast; lots of cuddles!).

Re: advice on my poorly girl
When I took the pup for her jabs, we got a vaccination certificate, and on it they have put the date and also the label from the vaccination bottle. Then there's loads of spaces to have future booster details on it too. As far as our policy goes, without any proof of vaccination, there could be a lot of hassle to use her insurance. Even if your pup has been vaccinated, if you have no paperwork and you're not sure which vets carried out the vaccination, it could be a lot of hassle if you ever (but hopefully never!) need to claim.

I may br jumping the gun but what are the chances that she may be coming into season? I've checked her lady bits and the vulva is slightly swollen and the skin around is also slightly swollen she's got an increase in discharge aswell, she turned 6 months officially on SaturdaySteve wrote:poor daija, i would ask just in case.

Certainly could be, she's at that age and the signs seem right.

Every chance! She's the right age. Just keep an eye on her. Oh, and invest in some doggie hygiene pants!

No, usually it's just drips here & there! Some are worse (as Steve said) but mostly it isn't too bad. But if you want to save your firniture & carpets from getty messy the hygiene pants are really good. You can get them from most pet stores. Don't use ones for kids cause they don't have a tail hole!
