new pup rocky!
Hey new to the forum!
Recently me and my partner brought our first puppy 6 days ago! He is all white with a liverspot nose!
11 weeks old had his first injections yesterday.
When we got him he was very nervous as he was with his parents at home. He shook a lot and didnt want to really move. As times gone by he opened up to me and is a really happy puppy. He has only just started to play wit toys so im hoping that he will play with them more as he settles in.
So I have a few questions!
He is still really nervous of my girlfriend, he has started to settle down around her but he still backs away and shakes now and then?
We feed him three times a day 100g but sometimes he isnt interested in his food and hardly touches it other times he eats the lot! Is that normal?
The big one now! Toilet training!! We have started him on pads and he is getting a lot better at doing it on them but sometimes he wees on them and poos on the carpet then the otherway round! How do we get him to start him in the garden! I take him outside after his dinner for ages and he doesnt want to go! When he does come inside he doesnt like going to the toilet in front of us he goes upstairs and does it in secret! Any ides please?!
Thanks for anyone who replies!

Re: new pup rocky!
Hi, welcome to the forum!
Well, remember he's still probably missing his old home & his mum, so it'll take a little while to settle fully. Be patient & consistent & he'll settle. Who's with him more? You or your girlfriend? And who feeds him? If it's you, maybe your girlfriend should take over for a while - there's nothing like food to settle a dog!
The toilet training is just going to take patience. Take him into the garden frequently (probably about every hour) especially after waking up, playing or eating. Just let him potter around & if he wees or poops give him praise. I wouldn't use pads myself, I think they just train a dog to go indoors! (Mind you, I put one down for my bully, and he damn near ate it!) When he goes to the toilet indoors, take him straight out (don't tell him off or even raise your voice) and when you come back in, clear up the accident without him being in the room, otherwise he might think of it as a fun game. Disinfect the area & spray a doggy deodoriser on the area so he isn't attracted back to the same spot. He'll get it eventually.

Re: new pup rocky!
yeah hes a smashing dog, just one bit of advice to keep in mind with the white staffy, is their very prone to skin cancer if left in the sun too long just keep plenty of sunscreen on him when it comes to summer time. i was going to breed my Katies puppy's back to all white, but i was put off by the idea due to all white dogs been prone to skin cancer,

Re: new pup rocky!
Are they prone to deafness as well? I know that's a problem in some other all-white dogs.

Re: new pup rocky!
Rocky has been sick!
I brought some worming tablets(bob martin, the puupy ones) and decided to give them to him today. The box said to give puppies over 8kg all four tablets. As he weighs 9.6 kg I gave him all 4. About 5 hours later he was sick, then 20 mins sick again now for 30 mins its been just spit where he is wretching. He has really livened up since then but still not 100%.
Reading different books e.t.c I know realise that the vet is the best option for worming and this will be his future worming place.
So for now I want to know if he was sick 5 hours later, does he need worming again, also what shall I do to make him feel better?!
thanks

Re: new pup rocky!
i think you should have giving him the 4 tablets at different intervals, the reason he was sick is you gave him all the tablets at once

Re: new pup rocky!
to be honest the amount of the worming drug in the over the counter wormers is quite low there acctully bulked up with onion and garlic extract (which is actully not very good for your dog anyway)
the vet drugs for his weight will be 1 tablet ever 2 weeks usally just the two dosees and this will last for three months.but if your unsure of his worming record your vet might advise to do a two month course
just keep an eye on rocky he should be fine

I always go to the vet for my wormers as I want to make sure that he's covered for lungworm. Dempsey has a real liking for slugs & snails & they are terrible carriers of it.

Re: new pup rocky!
yeah dogs can pick up the lung worm worm from sniffing or licking slug and snail trails this causes the parasite to enter the dogs respiratory system and so begins the life cycle again.

Re: new pup rocky!
I had a greyhound that chewed almost right through my door frame. He had separation anxiety. The only thing that worked was crating him

Re: new pup rocky!
Luke, rocky looks great and nice koi tattoo i'm half way through getting a half sleeve koi
Guest- Guest
Re: new pup rocky!
thanks about tattoo, got both arms sleeved now, i put the metal edges that connect carpet up the walls and hammered them to shape around the frame, worked really well now he cant chew! got rid of the door and put a metal baby gate up too. Only because we have just moved in we took door off etc.
another thing if anyone can help?
when we first got him he slept on the floor next to me in our room, we now have a bed for him put his blanket in the bed and he refuses to sleep in there. He will sleep on the floor, i tried to move his blanket a bit at a time but he just slept in the gap in the same place!
any ideas?
