Whats going on ?
Daves getting on brilliant apart from one thing,he still makes a mess in the kitchen on a night time or when i go out.If im in the house he is fine, when he needs to go he whines i let him out job done but its like he carnt keep it in.A couple of times if got up really early for work and he hasnt done anything and iv let him straight out but more often then not i wake up to mess,im thinking a crate might be the answer.Any advice please ?

Re: Whats going on ?
You could certainly try a crate. I'm surprised, though, that at his age he can't wait till morning to go to the toilet. It sounds like it could be a touch of seperation anxiety.
I take it he's clean during the day, other than when you go out?
Have you tried taking him for a short walk last thing before bed? I mean literally last thing, just before you go to bed yourself?

Re: Whats going on ?
I let him out last thing at night,i will try taking him for a little walk allthough he only goes to the toilet when he,s off the lead.
Do you think it might have anything to do with me getting up at different times for work anywhere between 4-7 oclock.
Saying that though it doesnt explain making a mess when i go out through the day.

Re: Whats going on ?
It's possible............he might not have managed to get a body routine! There's not much you can do about that, though.
The good new is that 99.99% of dogs get fully housetrained by the age of 12 months or so, so maybe he's just one of the slower ones?

I have noticed he,s realising he has done wrong now,its a shame because its the only thing thats 'letting him down' but ill persivier,i think a crate might be just the thing because he has the freedom of the full kitchen on the night time and he always 'go's' in the same place.

Re: Whats going on ?
Thats what my reasoning was mate,i read that at first to put a partition in so he's just got enough room to stand up and turn around,is this right i dont no if id feel comfortable leaving him in such a small space for any period of time.

Re: Whats going on ?
I had a dog with separation anxiety that behaved exactly like Dave. He was worse at night until I put his bed in my room. He was fine after that. Hope the crate helps. Try to make it as comfortable and ' den like' as possible. If it its separation anxiety, a te shirt that smells of you might help him adjust to his crate. Good luck.
