Hello from a new staffie owner
Hello there,
We have recently (2 weeks ago) rehomed a 15 month old staffie bitch called Tinkerbell. We are new to the breed as I previously had a welsh sheepdog who was sadly pts aged 7 two years ago sue to cancer. My partner has previously had alsations and dobermans but never a staff. I'm Karen and I live in Swansea with my partner Ian and 2 children, a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy.
We rehomed Tinkerbell from a guy on our street due to a relationship breakdown. She grew up with kids the same age as mine and has fitted into our family brilliantly. She is a great dog, but was in season when we had her so we are finding walking her hard as we end up coming home with waifs and strays trailing behind her lol.
I have always loved staffs ever since researching the breed for a college presentation years ago. My mam has told me I am stupid to get one as she like many uneducated people believe I shouldn't have this breed with children in the house. I think the pictures go to prove she is fab with both of my children and is certainly a family dog.
Here are some pictures of her, hope they work:
Sitting in my lap dozing at the end of the day.
Our daughter having a quick go at walking her!
Our son and her are the best of pals already.

Re: Hello from a new staffie owner
Many thanks for your welcoming. It has been pretty hard with her being in season because we live in an area where people put their dogs out in the morning and leave them on the street all day. So we have found it hard as there is one in particular that is there as soon as she is out and is trying his hardest to mate her.

Re: Hello from a new staffie owner
Wow she is gorgeous!! What a sweet little face. My advice would be if its really that bad around where u live with other dogs trying to mate her only walk her really late at might just before u go 2 bed or literally not at all. It would be better for her not 2 be walked for a few weeks than for her to get caught. As soon as she finishes her season get her to the vets and talk about when she can be spayed

Hi there and Welcome from Me and RoXy.
Well done on giving Tinkerbell a new home. She looks adorable and seems to get along great with the kids. Hopefully they will be the best of friends growing up together.
We love pics if you'd like to share more

She is adorable! Such a sweet face!
I agree with Blaze about keeping her away from other dogs and spaying her as soon as you can.

Re: Hello from a new staffie owner
Hi to all and thanks, I think she is gorgeous too! She is booked in for 2 months time to be spayed. The problem we have with her at the moment is I don't think she was ever walked by the old owners. I think she was just left to run around the garden all day, so getting her to toilet has been an issue for us. She needs to go as soon as we wake, about 2-3pm and again after the kids have gone to bed at about 7pm. So we haven't been able to leave her until late at night but we have been going the same route for a walk, boring for her but at least we know what dogs to expect to see.
She has issues with pooing whilst on the lead, not sure that she ever had done this before we got her as she prefers to use the garden. But we are getting there with her and she is slowly learning that walks mean she can go but is still fussy over where she chooses to go.
We haven't been able to let her out in the garden much either because of one dog around here. We haven't left her unattended in the garden because of her season, but as soon as she is out one dog from round here is at the gate and has dug a hole under our fence to get in. We have also received some hostility from our neighbour. She has a labrador and collie x and works all day and all night so the dogs are let out in the garden before she goes and when she comes home to toilet. I let Tinker out the other morning and 2 seconds later hers came out, she came out and told me "you do know my dogs can jump the fence, don't you". Not sure what it was all about but she took her dogs back in, and now whenever we let Tinkerbell out she lets hers out then grabs them back in. I think she has issues with Tinkerbell being a SBT even though, she stands at the fence wanting to play with next doors dogs.

Re: Hello from a new staffie owner
welcome to the forum from me and my girls Kita & Izzy.
Tinkerbell is gorgeous, is she a fawn staff....? The reason I'm asking is Izzy's mum was fawn but we never saw her, so I often wonder if she was like this.
I love here dark muzzle and facial features.
She is lucky you were there for her, now she will only ever know love and kindness.
As for your neighbour with fence issue - suggest she make it higher so her dogs can't leap over it, after all you do have your children to worry about should her dogs enter your yard.
See what her response is then
