Dog Food
Hi All.
I am new to this discussing stuff on internet.
I have two staffies. The boy is now 5. He is beautifull but he has one problem, he has a skin irritation. The irritation is so bad that he would lie on the grass with his legs spread open and then sort of swim on the grass to rub the itching, and he would literally cry from the frustration. I was told by the vet to give him a specific type of food - but it is really very, very expensive. So I then heard of a lady who gave her pitbull rice and meat and yoghurt etc. So I then started to cook rice for him, I take normal rice, and mix in tinned or frozen veg, and some form of meat like liver, or sausage. i ussually make a huge pot and freeze it. Basically I do one pot per week. this really helps. I now alternate the normal pet food and the rice. And it works, I am just not sure whether he is now getting all the minerals and stuff he needs. Is there anyone out there with the same kind of issue with a skin problem and what do you do? Or is there anyone who has a different recipe?
Then the girl. She is now 3. She is a terror. She is great with us, and with my 3year old son. But she is constantly in my garden. She eats anything. And I just can't get her to learn. She just will not listen or pay any attention to me. Any advice is welcome.
My staffies is good mannered. They stay in the home when I am at home and outside when I am not at home.
Thanks!!

Re: Dog Food
Hi and welcome to the forum. Suki has food allergys and skin irratation as well so I know how frustrating that can be. She will also eat just about anything and we can prevent it sometimes if we are giving her a walk by not allowing her to sniff the ground but if she is off leash than she usually has eaten what she was after before we get to her. You could try teaching a drop it or leave it command and over time it could help.

Re: Dog Food
Hi and welcome too the forum.
There are 2 dog dry foods i can think of which are both hypo-allergenic food, it dosnt have ingrediants that are known to cause allergies in dogs is wainwrights and arden grange. they arnt the cheapest but deffinantly arn't the most exspensive dog food.
Arden grange is the more exspensive one, there both hypo-allergenic so dosnt matter which. i use too have stan on wainwrights its great food. my friend has her staffy on arden grange she has allergies and she gets on fine with arden grange. as i say both are practicly the same.
Hope that helps

Re: Dog Food
I did hear a vet on the radio talking about food allergies and dogs.. he said beef was one of the worse meats to feed a dog with allergies, and said goat meat was the best meat to feed a dog with allergies, with turkey a close second. I wouldn't know where to go to get goat meat, as I wouldn't mind trying it myself with Winston.
I got a bottle of Omega 3, 6 & 9 which is a combination of flaxseed, sunflower, olive and cod liver oil with vitamin E.. I just put a half teaspoon on my dog's dinner every night..supposed to be very good for enhancing the health of your dog's skin...You could try that too...
