I'm a Sucker...
This isn't really on topic because it's about a Pit Bull, but it's sort of in response to the thread "Frustrated!!!!"
I have tried to help a lot of people rehome their dogs. Most of the time it is far from pleasant. I guess that's why most rescue groups don't deal with owner surrenders. I'm a sucker, though, and can't turn down a pretty face.
A couple of weeks ago my middle school classmate (a girl I haven't seen for nearly 10 years) contacted me on Facebook. She got a 4 week old Pit Bull puppy 3 months earlier without asking her landlord and her landlord just found out and said he doesn't allow Pit Bulls. So she asked me what to do. I gave her advice on how to keep her dog. A week later I asked how it was going and she said she needed help rehoming him. Ok... so I found a bunch of rescue groups in and around her area and emailed them. One responded and asked to have her call them. I gave her their number and told her that they are foster based and really great. She said, "yeah I'll call them." Then later I asked her how the call went and she said, "well I've got a couple of offers from Craigslist (the Gumtree of the US) so I'll probably give him to one of them, I would rather him go to a family than end up in a shelter." Ugh. After all the work I did, she is just selling her poor pup to someone she knows nothing about. So now this beautiful dog:
Who was taken away from his mother too early and has no obedience training or socialization, might end up in the wrong hands because she wanted to make some money off of him.
She had also never heard of BSL until I told her and when I first asked her if he was an APBT she responded with (and I quote) "his dad apbt and his mom razours edge (a bloodline)." She is so uneducated about Pit Bulls that it is scary. These are the kind of people that end up on the news saying their dog just "snapped." When in all actuality their dog was probable never obedience trained or socialized and the owner just didn't pick up on the many signals that the dog was uncomfortable with the situation.
Honestly, if she lived closer I probably would have taken her dog in until I found a place for him. That's how much of a sucker I am!!

Re: I'm a Sucker...
An APBT in the care of an inexperienced handler and with no training is never a good thing. I would never even think of looking for a pet on CraigsList I really hope the new family will be a good fit for him.

I had the exact same situation the other day! I help out and foster whenever I can to make sure dogs get the best home possible, but what can you do when the bloody owner wont do whats best for them! Those sort of people will get rid of their dog on a whim, at the earliest convienience.

Re: I'm a Sucker...
such people make me so angry...
I only hope that this poor little one will be lucky and find some good owners
do you know who did she take the dog from? people that let her have that pup too early without even checking whether she knows anything about the breed are probably even more irresponsible than she is...

Re: I'm a Sucker...
Tom, She got him from a BYB. I knew it the moment she said that the breeder told her the dog was half APBT(the name of a breed) and half Razours Edge (the name of a bloodline). One can only hope the guy is no longer breeding, but he probably is.

The thing with Stafffys and pit bulls , There not dogs for everyone , Some people havent got a clue , How to bring the dog up and train It properly , They dont think hard and do there research, They Just get the dog , Then they wonder why dogs turned, Its all whos hands the dogs In , That will determine whether It ever turns or not , 9 times out 10 ,

Re: I'm a Sucker...
Awww she is gorgoeus its so sad to think she will prob be passed from piller to post for the rest of her life it makes me sick the poor little thing. People like her make me so angry that poor little doggy.
I really hope she does find a loving forever home with someone who knows the breed and has the time to socialise and take good care of her.
