Difficulty finding a home!
My best friend has Just left hes parents house, He has a 3 year old staffy he wishes to take with him, He and hes girlfriend are finding It so hard to find a landlord which allows dogs, And ones that do or will consider It, Want extra deposit , I think Its stupit teenagers and small children cause more damage to a home than a dog , Think new laws should come In that allow all dogs and cats, Within In reason oviously , And some of these landlords wonder why they struggle to rent there properties , P**ses me right off , And alot of these landlords that make these rules within there own houses they are renting out, Have pets themselves, So why disallow other people to have pets, And alot of people that cant find houses or flats to rents to allow pets, Which Is why more and more animals end up In shelters, Because people cant find houses that allow pets, Because we all know how hard can be to find a house or flat to rent that allows pets , Anybody personal experiences or tips be very much apreated ! .

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
I'm one of the lucky ones. My landlord is fine with me having pets. They have seen the house and they can see for themselves that the pets are causing no damage.
Its a shame that landlords can't give people a chance as long as they can agree to repair any damage the pet may cause.

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
my landlord reluctantly allowed us to have a dog, we didnt have to pay any extra but have to have the carpet professionally cleaned when we move out and had to put a big rug down to protect the wooden floor, which is a joke as the carpet was already stained and the wooden floor damaged when we moved in Not expecting much of our deposit back when we move out either.

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
I feel there pain, me and my OH spent the best part of a year trying to find a house that would accept pets never mind a dog! We had to pay extra on the bond to be allowed a dog but we didn't mind as it meant we could get harv!

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
Landlords need to start getting realistic , Else they Just wont rent there houses , If damage Is caused people pay for It simple , Why the dilemma of not allowing pets , Its so much easier If you own your own house, But Its so dam hard to get on the ladder atm, They want 30% deposit, Which will take about 10 years to save up for , Which Is almost Impossible with everything been so expensive and going up all the time , Like gas electric food petrol , Unless you got rich mummy or daddy that pays the deposit , But 30% deposit Is nuts , In portugal where I was born you dont even need a deposit! To buy a house , And they wonder why homes arent been bought make It easier for people banks and everyone will benefit, Instead of making It so dam hard to buy a house! Way things are going most people are going to have to rent there whole life, Because they cant afford to buy a house, And cant get the finances to even buy a house.

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
we needed to pay extra for 'carpet cleaning' but it was worth it none of our neighbours have a dog but one family has a cat
the lady landlord said she's got 2 rescue dogs from the same shelter we've got Mambo from so I think we're lucky.
I'm sure we wouldn't be allowed to have a dog in any of our previous flats, which is why we didn't even consider this before...

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
When i moved in with the oh we were lucky it was a private rent and didnt mind about pets, then we got 2 weeks to get out...... trying to find a place was a nightmare, luckily we found our place and they were happy to let the dogs n cat we moved in with the 2 people we were renting with, mind you we had too pay an extra £100 a month no doubt because of the animals but we dont care were just happy we got somewhere that allows animals.
Has your friend tryed going into an agents and asking for pet friendly places?

Re: Difficulty finding a home!
We moved interstate for my hubby's work and have the same issues here in Oz. We finally found a house that allowed us to have our girls and I had to lie through my back teeth and say my dogs never come inside, only to discover after we were accepted that our landlord lives across the road. So now I have to teach my girls to tiptoe around when they are in the house.
The annoying thing for us is we are landlords ourselves and we allow our tenants to have pets without hesitation.
