Stomach Ache Empty Stomach Ache

Post by Guest Wed Aug 17 2011, 14:25

Saxon has had really loose stool since last night. This morning when Tim took him out he said that he had diarrhea and was puking. When I took him out he was eating grass and puking. He hasn't eaten anything this morning (but he did try go for the cat food) and he hasn't had a drink, either. I think what's making him sick is cat food. He kept sneaking cat food yesterday and Tim said that he polished off at least one bowl.

Right now he is snoozing comfortably in the grandma chair, but I'm worried about him.

What can I do to soothe his stomach?

You could try giving some scrambled egg or some mashed potatoe. Or even a little arrowroot - mix a couple of large teaspoons of arrowroot witha little water to make a paste & then add about 200ml or so of cold water & a spoonfull of either honey or brown sugar. Add to a saucepan & heat until it starts to thicken. Allow to cool & let him have it - it should look like a thick gloopy gel. It'll help to stop him feeling hungry, and helps to soothe the stomach as well.

poor Saxon..hope he is feeling better soon

I remember one time when Jethro's tummy was making terrible gurgling sounds, and he had the trots, I gave him some herbal irritable bowel tablets and they helped him alot. For food I gave him plain scrambled egg with nothing else added.
I am not sure if giving him the herbal tablets was the right thing to do but they certainly fixed the problem. I am sure someone else will have some advice for you and Saxon.

They are made by Cenovis and are mostly peppermint oil.
Says on the pack they are for abdominal pain, spasms, flatulance and aids digestion.

Sweet potato will help to harden the stool back up. Hope Saxon feels better soon and sorry I couldn't be of more help. I usually just go straight to the vets if anything goes on more than a day or two.

The only Cenovis I can find online is brewer's yeast extract - similar to marmite/vegemite! Sad

Arrowroot should be available from supermarkets in the home baking section. It's used to thicken sauces without adding colour or flavour.

Cenovis is an Aussie brand but I thought you would be able to buy it over the internet somewhere!

there are probably similar tablets out there made by different companies..

Saxon is doing better! I took him with me to Planet Dog to buy an easy walker harness and see what they recommended and he acted like he wasn't even sick. He cuddled with and tried to hug everyone and he tried to play with his yellow lab friend, Sam (my coworker's dog). He was basically just his usual self. After Planet Dog I went to the shop and got some Pedialyte (for rehydration), chicken, and rice. I mixed them all up in his bowl and he scarfed it down. He is now chasing a fly around the apartment with Ziggy.
