Ear Ache
Does anyone know if dogs can suffer from ear ache?
Rocky was sick last night after returning from along walk out in the countryside, it was quite breezy and I didn't give it much thought until this morning. I was just wondering if ear ache could have made him sick, I know it makes me feel ill when I get it.

Re: Ear Ache
Kathy, I would have thought his ear would ache if he had an infection.
Was he just sick once and otherwise ok? x

Re: Ear Ache
He was just sick a couple of times, it may have been the grass from the field where we were playing yesterday afternoon. He seems quite sleepy this morning so have kept him in. He just had a small bowl of breakfast so will see what happens next

Re: Ear Ache
They can get ear ache. Signs are normally repeated scratching around the ear, behind the ear and even inside the top part of the ear. Other signs are rubbing the side of the head on the floor etc as mentioned by Sazzle.
Often soreness can be seen just inside the ear but very often there can be no outward sign. If behaviour is shown as above, a trip to the vets would be advised. If the infection is left for too long, the ear canal can become narrowed and treatment is then a lot more difficult.
If Rocky has been ill just today, then I would keep an eye for symptoms but if none shown then I would assume something else.
Hopefully he just picked something up and it will pass

Alfie has a sore ear now he hasn't been sick, but restless at night, pawing at the ear and he holds his head lopsided, bad ear lower.

Re: Ear Ache
Hubby took Rocky out for walk a bit earlier this afternoon and said he was fine and just had a little grumble at a malamute which is quite normal for him. He is now having a snooze on the bed while hubby is out which is also quite normal so think we are over whatever it was. Thanks for the replies peeps, great to know you are all out there.
