Need some biting/chewing advice!
Billy has been living with us for three days now and has settled in very well, he's even been watching our older dog Taz going to the toilet outside and has cried at the back door to be let out for the toilet!
But Billy is a little chewer, he bites everything! He tries to nip toes and fingers, clothes people are wearing ect, so we were just wondering if this was a natural thing for a young puppy to do and if he will grow out of it, or if you have any methods we could use to discourage him from chewing things he shouldn't!
Thanks!

a young puppy will do this, i speak from experience with woody. yhey will grow out of it but with a bit of training, no tends to work and encouraging good behaviour. woody had a habit of chewing "things"too and by process of elimination i found vicks vapour rub to work best

I think it is quite commen but really needs discouraging. I know I lost many shoes due to a staff chewing the heal!
Lots of toys for him to chew on, things to entertain him, rather than things he shouldn't have. Spraying a deterant is great or vicks, put it on a small space to discourage. They learn with training x

Re: Need some biting/chewing advice!
The repelants work well on surfaces but i'v found when they try to nip you/your hands and toes and high pitched yelp (like his siblins or another dog would do when play gets to rough) and a firm no seems to do the trick, when he is a little older teaching the leave commands can work wonders with many situations so its worth looking up how to do it properly so he can catch on more quickly

Completly normal esppically if they are teething. The sprays work and training is a must. You can also try giving him something he is allowed to chew to replace the item you are trying to save. We put all of the items we were very attached to away when Suki was going through this.

Unfortunatly it completely normal we are going through it again now with Duke and went through it before with Molly, just ah ah, no. and stop playing with him/ignore him for a short while.
Its one of the things that takes quite alot of time though unfortunatly, its not one of them things you can teach them in a day or two.

yes nipping, biting and mouthing is very normal!! I know only too well!!
with Winston I would say a loud BAH or NO when he tried to bite, then I would distract him with a chew toy.. they soon get the idea.. When they are teething they like nice cold things so it is soothing on their gums eg frozen carrot or similar...Winston is getting his adult teeth now and he loves frozen carrots or apples.

ruby will chew EVERYTHING that's not nailed down... it's getting better, but we still can't leave shoes (or underwear) anywhere nearby or they will be destroyed:)
i had the same problem with her though - she would only listen to my partner and not me (or so it seemed). but i was using "no" which she would ignore - for some reason though if i say "uh uh" she will listen to me straight away. i guess you just have to find the word/signal that suits you, and your tone of voice etc... as long as you're consistent he will come around, but it does take time
